I'm passing on the 5112 based on your opinions. How's this gilt 5133 from 1964 to you?
Hands don't match the patina but are supposedly original. Case in super condition. |

Spots on the dial, with possible aging/damage to the edge of the dial at the 3:00 position. The top layer of tritium may have been scraped off. The hours plots should look like smooth domes and not have a rough appearance like the 5:00 plot. If you look at other examples from '64 you will see what I mean. You need to see a view from a 45 degree angle of the dial with the light adjusted to check for scrapes on the dial from the hour hand and for crazing. In addition, that is not the insert that I would expect to see on a gilt Submariner from 1964. Oh yeah... and as you mentioned the hands don't match the patina very well.
If you read this sticky on the Bart vs the Classic coronet, you will see what I mean regarding the tritium on the hour plots. For the most part the domes are smooth and do not have a rough appearance. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=376415

Thank you so much for all the info! I was up most of last night digging through the Mondani Submariner book and finally gave up.
Your answer and link provided is greatly appreciated. |

Found another
So, as we all are I suppose, I´ve been trawling the web and stumbled open this 5512 from 1967. It does look quite good to me, but then again, I could be missing som things.
