I would keep it- such a great watch. I think people notice our watches far less than we think they do, particularly in "conservative" work environments. And even if people do notice, as long as you're not making a big deal about it, they probably won't either.

Great watch!

Why have doubts? You can return it for a full refund, so, do it, and pick it up later when you can fully enjoy it. Whether your concerns are justified is besides the point - this is a hobby that is supposed to be fun, but it can also cost a lot of money. Do what feels right.

I agree on keeping it. The Daytona is kind of an under the radar Rolex IMHO mainly because it's a chrono so it looks like just about every other chrono out there - subdials and pushers.

If you're concerned about negative feedback, that ship aleady left the harbor with the DJ and PP currently in your barn. No mistaking the DJ as a Rolex and though the Patek is probably more unrecognizable, if someone does figure out what it is you're toast, LOL. And if you're rotating these watches at work then the Daytona is not the thing that's gonna stand out, it's the fact you are wearing a different high end piece everyday that makes that statement.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

lol couldn't have put it better myself. Worrying about a Daytona when he already has a Patek in the collection; and the fact that people will notice he is wearing a different watch every day lol.

Cat's out of the bag already with the DJ. Joe Public believes the DJ costs big money due to the cyclops and iconic reputation. You already own the PP Aquanaut which is the ultimate below-the-radar watch. Adding a Daytona fits right in between the DJ and PP5127. Keep it!

You would notice it on someone else. The people on this forum would notice it on you. Nobody else in the world will notice or care. Wear it.

If you're worried about the Daytona garner attention, how do you feel about wearing your Patek at work? Is it in the safe for weekend use only?

To The OP

I used to think that some Rolex were blingly but the honest truth is that nearly every Rolex is now positively conservative when compared to the large gaudy stuff that a lot of men wear now a days.

The simple truth is that Rolex just does not attract attention any more, it used to but no longer.

The only exception is yellow gold versions because of the chunky bracelet.

Send it back if it makes you feel uneasy. You can always buy another one later on.

I'm 25 - a fairly junior guy in a corporate environment that is a bit conservative. My small collection has both a stainless datejust and a patek 5127. My main concern is that this watch will garner major attention if I wear it to work - can't afford a daytona as just a weekend watch. I don't want to be thought of as arrogant or flashy, especially as I am coming off a recent promotion (happened after the daytona hunt was underway).

Have any of you ever had similar thoughts? I can return the watch now for a full refund, but as I get it ready to ship back I fear that in the future I may regret giving up such a good specimen. On the other hand I think it is good to not stick out for these kind of reasons in the professional world. Any wisdom you all may be able to give would be greatly appreciated.
To the OP

I am an old man of 66 years, fairly conservative and even though I say it myself, I had a fairly successful career in a conservative industry where you dressed "business like" if you wanted to fit in.

Your Daytona is fine, it is a good quality watch that is not unduly flash, in fact a 116520 is so conservative, even I am on the look out for one.

The only people who really need to worry about attracting attention in the office are those who wear chunky solid gold watches which looks bloody awful in a business environment.

So keep your Daytona, you have nothing to worry about. Your only problem is you worrying.

Regards

Mick

Nothing wrong with having a good taste and preference in watches so long as you can well afford it. To each his own in terms of priorities in spending what you've worked hard for. So wear it and enjoy it.

Neither choice is wrong keeping it or sending it back; do that which feels best to you. "Luke, trust the force." If it were me I'd wear it and give no second thoughts about it; I personally can't see a thing flashy about any of the normal stainless Rolexes.

Just wear it! Most people probably won't even notice that it's a Rolex (in my experience, YMMV)

I wear the Patek frequently. Nobody notices it, and whoever does notice it I think appreciates the style / elegant but subdued aspect.

I wear my sub every day at the office. the only time someone noticed it he said ''Oh is that a vintage Rolex?'' he is a watch enthusiast as well and it was a compliment nothing bad. I also think the Daytona is a bit flashier than the submariner but as long as you support the watch with nice clothes and a classy behavior you're fine. And don't try to hide it under your sleeve it attracts more attention

Send it back and then buy the Platinum Daytona. Much more under the radar and discreet. Just ask Doctor Tom Kerr!

I felt same way as you too, then realized there are a lot more flashier watches around then a ss Daytona. a hulk or tt imho is much flashier!
after a while I get so used to it and frankly nobody really noticed a ss black dial watch!

Good choice in keeping it...so few in the world really know a Rolex from a Seiko. Those who actually notice and know what one is will most likely think this guy has good taste in watches. I agree with others that your Datejust with cyclops would garner more attention than a Daytona due to it being more what people think of when they think Rolex.
