I am glad you found out before purchasing. What works for one might not for another.

Take a look at the PM versions on bracelet...nothing dainty about them, and as a bonus due to their smaller size, wear incredibly comfortable for a gold watch.
If convinced that the Daytona is a no go, plenty of good chronographs out there. Some good suggestions so far, take a look at some of the Tudor offerings as well... |

I once thought a comment like this was blasphemy. No longer. I own an SS Daytona, but my next acquisition will be an Omega Speedmaster. There are a lot of choices in this collection and you may find they are classic, and wear well on the wrist. I'm on the fence between the NASA qualified Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch and the 44mm coaxial Speedmaster with 9300 movement. Bottom line: the Speedmaster is an awesome alternative chronograph if Daytona does not float your boat!

It's not really very complex: If you don't like it, don't buy it. In my experience (and this is just me), it's the rare watch that "grows on you." Occasionally, that's happened. But mostly, if I am not attracted to it at first, it remains that way - maybe just me.
Personally, I LOVE Daytonas - SS, TT, gold, whatever. But if it, or any watch, doesn't sing to you - forget it and try something else. Joel |

I have to say I agree with you. I know this is next to blasphemy on this forum but I really prefer the Speedmaster Professional to the modern Daytona. If I were you I would look at a Speedy Pro.

Lots of people concur. And if they don't, they understand the sentiment. Just look at the thread.

Speedy is obviously a great value/looks/quality/heritage/price equation but there are many beautiful chronographs out there. VC, JLC, Zenith come to mind. You have a world of choice.

You really just have to go with what feels right for you. One person can look at a watch and see dainty while another can see well proportioned and sleek. Conversely, one can see another watch as having wrist presence and style while another sees something else entirely.

The problem I had w the speedmaster was the 'stickiness' of the pushers. Funny no one has mentioned the blancpain bathy chrono.

I think the issue with the Daytona is personal wrist size. Many folks having a 6.5 inch wrist seem to love it. Folks with a 7.5 or larger wrist size might find it"dainty" no offense intended. The watch tends to wear on the small side, and I can understand somebody who normally wears a SubC or Seadweller4K would find it underwhelming.

My wrist is 7 3/4, the collection as it stands. Order of 'wear' size small to large.

It does take time to adjust to the Daytona
If you are wearing a watch like the 422 the Daytona will feel small. It took me two hear to adapt from Panerai to Rolex. I recently traded tow Pamerai to acquire my Daytona. While I know I will get a Panerai in the future I love the feel, scale and design of the Daytona. Best of Luck.

Rude!
There's nothing dumb about not liking a Daytona. I have a Daytona and love it but wouldn't knock someone else for not liking it. We're all different. The DJ has a huge fan base but I don't like it as I'm not a fan of dress watches. I prefer and wear only sports watches. Does that make me dumb too?

It's dumb to have an opinion? I was going to make a purchase, tested it out and realized the thing wasn't what people like yourself and ardent 'Daytona-ites' make it out to be - FOR ME, which was clearly spelt out. Which other of your personal choices would you like me to accept of yours as gospel? Wiping front to back or is it the other way way around, man up guy, to each is own.

To each his own! I happen to suffer from skinny wrist syndrome so the Daytona fits pretty well for me. Sorry the Daytona wasn't to your liking!

I kind of get what you mean, I owned a 116520 when they first switched to the in-house movement and eventually sold it on as I just didn't wear it very often. I just preferred other watches at the time.
Strangely I now find myself considering a SS Daytona again, or possibly a YM2. I really do like the new bezel on the Platinum Daytona, if that becomes an addition to the stainless version in the not too distant future I'll be at the front of the line. :-) |
