I have been looking at the latest Cellini line and am especially fond of the white dial Everose Dual time model. I currently own a 18K JLC Reverso I purchased in 1997, and the wife has GP 1966 she likes very much. However, there is something about the new dual time Cellini that speaks to me and I am seriously considering a purchase from my local dealer. I admit I am a Rolex fan having purchased my first one in 1989 and many other models since which I still own. They are all very reliable (have never had a warranty claim), easy to find service, with acceptable depreciation. The new 5 year warranty is also a bonus.
I also have a soft spot for PP, but the models I really like are beyond what I am willing to spend on a watch. I would rather buy a nice car!!! I also have a craving for a Seiko Hi-Beat - they are a beautifully made watch equal in quality with all the high end brands According to my trusted dealer friend, a few years ago he attended a dinner with the second in command from Rolex Geneve, the president of Rolex Canada, and the top Canadian salesman present. During dinner conversation he was asked by Mr. Rolex Geneve to give his honest opinion concerning the present Rolex Cellini line. In order to protect himself against a blow, my dealer friend then extended his right hand for a friendly handshake and answered the inquiry with one word "SHIT". Ready to defend his remark with a list of reasons, Mr. Rolex Geneve agreed with him and commented that Rolex was presently working on a solution. I hope my little story has not offended any current Prince or Danaos owners!!! Cheers to all, J. Alan |

In the $5K-$10K range, there are definitely more options to choose from. |

X2 Have seen and tried all 3 versions on - all beauties, especially the dual time with the stunning white dial. Lots of elegant case detail with a retro bubble back. Feels great on the wrist. The new Cellini line are winners and IMO they are going to snag a lot more dress watch customers which the Prince and Danaos failed to do. At last, a COSC certified in house movement - a great move by Rolex!!
One big change I noticed with the local Rolex dealers - they never had the Cellini Prince or Danaos in stock (order only), but they all have stock of the new Cellini line. J. Alan |

The Cellini Prince models on the Rolex website look stunning. Phil started wearing one while golfing and the square shape really stands out. Although I haven't seen one at the local AD, I would seriously consider one if in the market!

I think some of the DJ's and Daytonas with diamond encrusted dials and bezels are more pimped out than the Cellini's. A true dress watch, to me, fits a narrow definition - plain simple dial on a leather strap, precious metal optional. One need not spend 15k to 20k although that price range bring puts some superb timepieces in range.
It sounds like the friend of the OP is more interested in an expensive brand name.

If I wore a leather strap for 18 holes I'd have to change it after every round.

I love the platinum Cellini with the 60 second subdial, but I would never buy it. The depreciation is so bad that it would drive me nuts every time I put it on.
Maybe consider a leather strap DD or Daytona. If money was no option I would definitely go Lange. |

The Cellini is nice but I would go with a JLC Master Moon. The new one with black dial is a killer at a very affordable price. A. Lange would be a good choice but you will have a hard time finding one for $20k.

I like his choice of the RG JLC MUT Moon with grey dial.
But I would have a hard time choosing between that and a Lange. I'm not a fan of the Cellini line, and I would prefer a dress watch with a transparent case back and some nice finishing on the movement.

I also think he should take a look at Breguet. They make a variety of what I would call "dress watches". Some are standard looking if he prefers a more pure look. Others don't have that standard look at all, but are quite attractive, but still keeping a "dressy" look.

For a dress watch I chose this 38.5 mm JLC Master Ultra Thin with a steel case, available from an AD for no more than $7K. |

Kinda old but I'm big into home audio/video and never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd read that a watch had "Golden Ratio" dimensions. That is just too kool. Makes me want a reverso even more now! I'm gonna have to figure out which model uses it and straight up go with it regardless just because I'd know why it was special to my wrist besides just being a bad a$$ watch in general lol.

If it's something that he's not to be wearing often, I'd go with a vintage Hamilton or Omega.
