On POINT. I have seen an AD with a Platona and diamond Platona both sitting in the case for what has to be about 8 months now. Any longer and they probably would try to sell for close to cost just to move it out of inventory.

Fair sales price for an AD is the amount they are willing to let it go with sufficient profit for cash flow. If an AD is a family-based store located in a non-major city, where the local customer is not likely to pay $75K USD for a watch, they ARE going to discount more than a large chain retailer located in a major city like NYC. One of the skills of a seasoned high end watch buyer is to scope out the cash flow needs of a retailer and negotiate when the AD needs the cash fairly soon, rather than right after a group of tourists passed through and purchased a dozen Rolex watches the day before.

This is not an entry level watch. It is a lifetime keeper watch. Resale should be the last thing on your mind buying this level of watch. You are buying it to enjoy it and to keep it.
Buying from a local AD is also a good long term strategy as the more that you buy from your AD, the better all deals in the future will most likely be. I do not have to even discuss price with my AD at this point. He tells me the number and I buy. It is a very good number but it is not as low as internet buying but I get to go into the store and try on many different items regularly. Because of this, I know my choice is good. This has value as I have no need to flip watches. Maybe you want to flip watches and if you do, then buy somebody else's watch and save yourself money. Many people do this and it works for them. When you buy a new car it looses value but you get use out of it. Sure you can sell it at some point but it is losing value every day but that is the way it goes with watches. Some just depreciate more than other (forget about appreciation in all but the very rarest of circumstances). So do you want a new Porsche or Ferrari that you can drive and enjoy for your life or do you want to buy a used Subaru that does not depreciate very fast. Both work for people. You just have to decide which strategy works best for you. To answer your original question, $55k to $60k is a realistic number unless you are a Casino in Vegas and the price there is $75k. |

There are still deals to be had, but the Yen has strengthened a bit against the dollar. Regardless the greys adjust their prices almost immediately when there is a big currency shift. |

Buy a pre-loved one for upper 40's and call it a day. Even at 20% off, you're still saving 12k or so (not including sales tax as most have a way around that)... Buy ur self a SS Daytona with the savings.

Don't get your discount expectations up too high. Some ADs are charging full MSRP with no discount. Personally I would not pay more than 52-53K for BNIB. You are located in the US, there are trusted sellers in the for sale section here on the forum that have this watch available, BNIB. You will get a nice discount and not pay sales tax. And tax is a HEFTY sum on a purchase like this watch!

There are very few AD's that keep them in stock. This could make negotiations a little more difficult. Not many people walk in and drop $75K on a watch.

If you can't get 20 percent off on a PM Rolex keep shopping because once you walk out the door with a full retail price PM Rolex you just lost 30-40 percent of your investment.

I use TRF pricing as a baseline for what I'm willing to pay. 20-25% wouldn't cut it for me on this piece. But I'm cheaper than others and have a good AD relationship

In 2013 platinum was approx $1700 a Troy ounce, It is now $925 a Troy ounce almost 50% cheaper (platinum used mainly in catalytic converters following VW scandal it's price has sunk) - yet the model continues to be sold at rrp no change. The current trade price is shockingly low compared to rrp

From an AD it would run about 60k (20% off). If they tell you they can only do 10% off then try another AD.
