I think the navitimer will not help you achieve your goal. If you want to flip then flip but get something you love. Own your watch. Not just materially. If it's something you love enjoy it. Happy hunting.

Unless your watch is diamond encrusted there is no cause for concern. Over the years I have found many stereotypes concerning professions and watches worn. Accountants, for example, tend to wear digital or cheaper watches when working for a company. Othropedic Surgeons like Rolex and more expensive brands. Personalities have some consistency with different professions as well.
I don't believe there is much interest in what employee or management is wearing on their wrist.

The fact is, you asking the question means you are uncomfortable with the situation. Regardless of people saying not to care, you do and you say people there notice.

Answer seems pretty clear to me, I'd wear something else to work. A DSSD is quite massive so is a bit more in your face than a Sub. Moving up is not a bad idea...something like a Patek would fly under the radar.

Everyone who has said 'it doesn't matter' or 'find another job' or 'no one notices' are wrong.

He is in the healthcare field, he's not a real estate agent with multimillion dollar listings. This is a conservative business with people who often have a distain for things they might consider ostentatious or conspicuous.. all of which the deapsea is TO MOST people. Its big, its shiney and hard not to notice, especially if you are wearing a white shirt, or a suit.

If the watch makes you uncomfortable which is totally understandable knowing your audience you should look into something more subtle. IMO nothing in the contemporary Rolex line up falls into that.

Look into a Grand Seiko, Nomos, or maybe a JLC master control for something more discreet. A navitimer is not any less flashy then a deepsea, its more flashy. If you you have the budget there are other high end under the radar watches you could pull off and slide under a shirt cuff.

There is a time and place for everything.

Doesn't matter they live at home when you have an S550 homie!! I hear and see this a lot at my wife's work. Pretty much everyone ranks each other on their car. Impress me with your house!!

If you continue to be an asset to the company, I don't think your superiors care.
It's clear you are not comfortable with wearing that watch and/or want to flip the DSSD for something else.

I know people like this. A lot are just waiting for the inevitable worldwide financial crash that is coming and then will pick up a house for a bargain. Then those who paid the peak price for the house and now have $100K+ negative equity will be the one's everyone is laughing at. We'll see.

In the environment you're speaking of, people do notice. They will also benchmark that against the quality of your work. Sounds crazy but true - you better be doing top notch work because when you slip up you may be perceived as the guy getting Rich off them. Now if u r a top performer I think you have no problems. True what everyone else is saying about the executives probably spending money other places but they are not wearing an outward sign of that spending like you are. Also in that environment talent management includes gauging prospects ability to lead teams, part of that is humbleness and you'd want to make sure that your outward signs do not broadcast "big spender".Keep the watch but exercise discretion on what you wear to certain meetings. My 2 cents.

I try to wear my dj2 or something a little less "noticeable" when in a big meeting with peers/bosses.

Amazing how they have boats and motorcycles and go on vacation 4 times a year on a similar paycheck but my $10,000 watch is concerning to some. To each their own on how they spend their paycheck but I can sell my watch if I need to.

I made a brief comment on this earlier but since you touched on it, I will elaborate a bit further because its unlike any other industry that I'm aware of.

I started out in pharmaceuticals at a time when I could book a suite at Coors field for the season, take doctors to Mexico for real Mexican food, and have Universal Studios close for our private party to launch a new drug. That kind of spending was shut down by many departments of the government but the damage has been done. There is much disdain against the supply side of healthcare that executives at these companies frown upon any flash that can be seen by the customers or general public. This is primarily for those in the field (sales, research, marketing). Whether it works or not, it doesn't matter; Perception is reality. The people at the meeting noticed the watch and have their own opinions but again, it doesn't mean they don't spend their money on much more lavish things and don't show it.

Early in my career, I worked for the top cardiovascular medical device company at the time where people in sales made a lot of money. When I first started, my boss told to me to be aware of what I'm wearing in certain hospitals because I make more money than the doctors who worked in them. Meanwhile, at our sales meetings, it was a show of watches, cars, and custom suits.

If you were wearing a SS DJ or an Explorer 1 no one would notice or care. The size and shape of the DSSD screams LOOK AT ME, I'M DIFFERENT!

People can say wear what you want, but most offices are highly political at your level and being different for the wrong reasons can only hurt you when compared with competitors for advancement. If everyone else (especially executives) is flying under the radar that should be all the evidence you need to do the same.

The fact that you felt uncomfortable tells me you already know this, and know it's time to conform with your office's norm. Park the DSSD in the cupboard on weekdays and strap on a plain looking watch for work. A Calatrava would be a great WIS choice that likely no one in the office would notice as something special.
