This thread makes me wish the last time I gutted a deer wearing a Rolex I would've taken a wrist shot to contribute. Maybe next time, and wearing a DD because if Red Adair can fight oil rig fires wearing one I'm sure it'll be more than okay.

I agree, and I do what the watches were purpose built for with no worries but I do try to use some common sense

I do a lot of work on the race car at the track but always wear gloves, but watch is always on

To gloves and common sense!

You might want to invest in longer gloves!

Wow... and it's really clean?
I've done that with my watches before but no more.

My concern is that dirt getting stuck into the teeth of the bezel, the crown, inbetween the bezel and the case, between links- all those hard to reach places that can make cleaning it a pain. Then you need to get a toothpick or something to scrape the stuff out.

Not that the watch can't take it but hunting down bits of dirt in tiny, hard to reach places is annoying to me.

The good news is that NOTHING is stopping you guys from doing just that. I'll give $100 to each of your guys favorite charity if you post a video of your most expensive Rolex being dragged down a concrete street bouncing up and down. You see you could bypass all this BS and go straight for the end result you both seem to admire so much.

This absolutely has to be a combination of macho BS and a wealth gap. Nothing else makes sense. If a $13,000 watch to you is like $50 to me then beating the crap out of it, and that not bothering you makes sense. There still has to be a macho aspect to it because I am friends with some very wealthy people that do not abuse their luxury items like this. NO this it not what these watches are made for. At the end of the day it's your property and you can do anything you want with it. If anyone does this with a Patek I will publically accuse you of being insane.

Moved house recently wearing my Bremont S2000…

Heaving furniture about and squeezing through doorways etc.

Left lots of gouges on the doorframes, just wiped the paint and wood off the watch!

I can see both sides of this, everyone uses their things in their own way, having saved for a long while to get my watches I take them off if I'm doing anything that 'may' cause damage.

Horses for courses though.

Gardening in a Sub, yes. Gardening in a PP Calatrava, no. People obviously care for their watches, I get that. But what's the point of buying something so it sits in the box or a bank vault and never gets worn? That's more of a waste of money IMHO.

You just jumped to the opposite extreme. What makes you think you cannot wear a luxury watch all day long without subjecting it to something like gardening that one would only do for a few hours on the weekend? I manage to wear all of my Rolexes, Omega's and JLC's in a wonderfully orchestrated rotation that does not subject them to the manual labor is that I enjoy on the weekends. I hunt fish and do shooting sports. I would never wear my Grand Reverso in a tree stand with my compound bow. Just like I would not wear my nice pair of $600 Ferragamo shoes camping.

I hunt with my DSSD, but I wouldn't with a Breitling Navitimer or something. Just use the right watch for the job. Any other reasoning in moot.

Fair enough however a DSSD would serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever including being able to tell time very well while hunting with the exception of possibly looking really cool. I would not subject a $12,000 watch to damage and scratches to look cool. IMHO

Perhaps those of you that revel in needlessly damaging their fine watches and applaud the abuse of the watches of others as a sign of "toughness" or "really living" should read Stephen Crane's classic novel, "The Red Badge of Courage".

I take very good care of all my expensive things but there is a difference between not becoming overly obsessive about a scratch on your BMWs grill from a rock on the freeway and taking that same $90,000 car offroad in the mud. I would like to know how many people here purposely beat the crap out of their $10,000-$70,000 Rolexs just for kicks. And if you do why and also what other expensive luxury items do you do this to? Thanks. Should be some interesting answers. Perhaps we should start a thread on this question.

One more thing I had to add. All the people celebrating this type of behavior do you do the same thing to your watches? If so I would love to see pictures of you in the middle of beating the crap out of your watch. Thanks!
I'm with you guys on this... I see it the same as not wearing a nice white oxford shirt to paint a barn in... All the comments about how tough the watch is seem (to me) somewhat off point here. If you're going to do something that will get your clothes dirty common sense dictates that you wear old clothes, so if you're planning to do something that could have you rolling around in mud why wear your nice watch when common sense would dictate that you take it off first... Not about "babying" it as I see it just about taking a step to not put something nice in harm's way unnecessarily...

What's your point? All car manufacturers take every model they build and smash it into a wall to test its safety. Are you suggesting that Ford or Mercedes want you to do that with your vehicle?

I suppose any manufacturer would like you to destroy their product as quickly as possible so that you could purchase another one. I will suggest that to my customers this week.

I completely agree but it's a discussion. Are you trying to suppress free speech? I'm feeling the burn here.

Dirt or soil is mainly composed organic material and silicate minerals. Silicate minerals are highly abrasive and not something that you would want under your bezel or in the links of your bracelet. Yes, our are Rolexes are tough and can handle very adverse conditions. But, the point that I and others here are trying to make is that it is foolish to needlessly subject a beautiful piece of machinery to harm.
