Try to get it at a good price, ask her nicely to treat it nicely, don't freak out when she beats the shit out of it, and relax and enjoy life

Get her a nice preowned Rolex from on the of the Trusted Sellers. Even if she bangs it up it can always come back from service looking like new.

Buy it. Insure it. Don't worry about it.

"I want him to have nice things (he already has the best wife!) but spending 5-6K on a watch that I know he will keep in the safe with the plastic stickers still on just bugs the crap out of me. Plus, he wears a fitbit on his left wrist, so we'll have that beautiful watch that he'll never wear out of fear of scratching and instead he'll just wear a cheap plastic colored band. It's just... So, am I being a butthead? Or should I just chalk it up to the cost of being married, keeping him around to put with my crap, or am I justified in thinking that it's throwing away good money for someone who will likely rarely wear the watch as it was intended before it needs a service?" |

To be honest, the fact she just wears her watches and doesn't worry about scratches makes her sound more WIS than you. Unless you are buying it for you and contemplating her borrowing it, just get it for her. It's her watch, she can do what she wants with it. Save the teaching lessons about taking care of things for your children.

I let the Mrs wear the 116613 and she is rough with it.
She can wear the RG Daytona, but only out and about and back to the safe when the night is done. |

As long as you can afford it, why not give her what she wants?
It's hers to beat up or baby, and it's nothing the RSC hasn't seen before and can't fix. My wife has a few watches, the Cartier takes a beating and comes back like new every 5-6 years. I'm happy she has any interest in watches. Happy wife, happy life!

That's an interesting thought. Make her buy it herself and maybe she might appreciate the cost more and therefore, maybe subconsciously, take better care of it. Maybe even use the Rado for anticipated rough days?
Nothing to lose. Just give her the green light and say get what you want.

So here is the thing. The modern married male is very dependent on the ever so rare Vitamin V. Since we need to gather it at every opportunity I suggest you buy her the Rolex and get on with life, with a full dose of Vitamin V.
I got lucky. Wife said "I never wear this Rolex. Can you sell it and buy me a Tudor with diamonds I saw on IG". Yes, honey I sure can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It doesn't specify whose life is happy if the wife is happy.
