Anyway, if I follow my heart, it would be great if my son can be a Formula 1 racer. If he is successful, money is good and I get to travel the world with him. It is just wishful thinking, since it is the pinnacle of motorsports and only 20 odd drivers every season. From where I came from we do not have a strong racing heritage, and junior programs to develop young talents.

Would you force him choose his team based on the watch sponsors? Lol.

Im a dentist myself. I love what I do & the money is good. I would love for my newborn daughter to one day follow in my footsteps. She already is a WIS like her old man. Lol

(That watch was bought when she was born. Engraved with her initials, DOB & time of birth. My wife wears it now. But it will be given to my daughter in 20yrs or so)

Unless your children are very certain on what career path they want to take, a general arts degree is never a bad idea. Once they know what they want, the sky is the limit.

Since everyone is different it's impossible to make suggestions. I might say lawyer, but my daughter might just as soon be a chef. After all people have to eat too

Go to West Point or Annapolis. Graduate to become an officer and do their time. Afterwards they would have almost any company they want offering them stupid sums of money and they would have had the honor to serve their country.

Me too. One of the very best professions, IMO. Can make a great income and work a nice schedule with plenty of time for family.

I wouldn't want to be doing anything else and hope one of my kids follows in my footsteps.

Everyone is professing love for being a lawyer. I practiced for five years and by year five I dreaded it. I now own a commercial finance brokerage and wake up with a smile on my face everyday. Moreover, I make 20x the income I made as an attorney. I found law to be over saturated, highly competitive, highly stressful and depressing. Perhaps these feelings stemmed from the fact that I was a litigation attorney and stuck in court everyday for motion hearings, evidentiary hearings and more often than not the majority of the time was spent simply waiting for my cases to be called. Now, I simply go to my office and close the files my reps bring to me and it isn't so rare to make a $30,000.00 commission or more. As an attorney, I would have had to been lucky enough to procure a personal injury case that either settled for $90,000.00 (very rare) or a verdict for same, (extremely rare; for me non-existent) or obtain a retainer for same and it would take 6 months to earn it!!

It's very possible that the occupation my kids end up doing doesn't exist yet. But business smarts are universal, as well as social skills.
