Every watch purchased from a trusted seller came through the hands of an AD. Nothing wrong with trying one on to get a feel for it. If AD's wanted to sell more watches they could easily do so by giving the same discounts. They CHOOSE their business model just like TS's choose theirs. |

No different than trying on a pair of shoes or a jacket at a store for sizing and buy elsewhere. People want the most with their money and whether they choose an AD or TRF trusted seller is their call. Personally the previous 2 watches I purchased I needed to both see and try on prior, even though I knew I wasn't purchasing that exact day. What about taking a car for a test ride...same concept. And someone else made the comment: 'that's part of retail'...was a store manager for a few years and trying something out is part of the game.

You have to be fair, the ADs do operate at a disadvantage in the sense they are selling one offs in the local high street and Rolex will not permit telephone or online sales etc. The Grey Dealer will source his watches by offering a foreign AD a very low price for a high volume sale in a country such as the UK or Italy where prices are currently the lowest. Next week it will be somewhere else. That is fine, it is a perfectly acceptable business model and there is nothing wrong with it. Rolex do nothing to prevent it, so in a way it suits them. I recently bought my wife a YG 31mm Datejust with diamond markers and saved myself £8000 (say $12,000) by buying from a Grey Dealer. However when I was in the AD, I haggled with him for nearly 15 minutes and got nowhere, I told him the Grey Dealer price and explained I would rather buy local but was not prepared to pay a massive difference, but I was prepared to pay some difference. He stuck to his guns and said no discount. I therefore took my wife for a day out and bought from a Grey Dealer. This is, in my opinion, fine because I gave the AD the opportunity to move on price and he declined. We shook hands and parted. Everything was above board and honest. What I would never do is go into an ADs shop, try on everything going and then walk out without giving him a chance to quote a price before buying from a Grey Dealer. That is plain unethical and if you cannot see that, then so be it. Regards Mick |

Great watch, but it does wear a bit big and is also a bit heavy. That said, I wear one all the time and love it! I've considered getting a 16570 40mm as I love the feel and weight of a 40mm on my wrist which is 6.75".
I'd go into a reputable pre-owned shop, try on both and buy which ever one feels best on your wrist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Explorer II is a great watch, I tried it on at a few AD's. I have a 7.25" wrist and it looked great. Almost bought it but when I was able to find a BLNR, I was swayed in that direction.

I think even if an AD did not sell a particular brand watch even though they spent the time to show a customer, it is still promoting the brand, and indirectly helping retail. There has to be a mutual benefit to supporting that brand regardless where it was purchased. It continues to support Rolex's longevity in the marketplace by keeping demand high, and Rolexes don't just appear in the marketplace without the ADs, if I understand correctly.
