You need a metal detector. Could just be under some leaves somewhere. I once lost a signet ring when I was young in a playground. Some 8 years later a friend of mine was showing off his new metal detector. I drew a map of the place I lost the ring and he found it buried in the ground, good as new.

Metal detectors are cheap, Daytona's are not. Hope you find it.

Yes. Report it to the police. It has a serial number so if it gets turned in and they run the number they'll be able to get it back to you.

Mine has actually come close a few times. I always notice it when the screw comes loose; but it has almost come completely out before! Scary stuff, OP I hope you find it!

Hopefully you kept a note of the serial number. If so, when you are sure it is definitely lost, contact Rolex and inform them of the serial number. If it turns up for a service down the line by an unsuspecting new owner, there is a good chance you will get it back if you can show evidence of prior ownership such as the original receipt or guarantee papers and have the police report to back up your loss.

On another note, people have posted they hope an honest person finds it. Let's say that happens. Just how in the world would the honest person find the owner of the watch? I'm not exactly sure how I would go about it, but I sure would try to find the owner.
