I bought a no-date watch as a daily wearer for work. I liked the watch (a Heritage Ranger), well I thought I liked it, and tried to adapt to a no-date watch but I could not break my habit of looking at my watch to remind me of the date. And no Mick I do not have the brain of a goldfish. Anyway for that and a few other reasons I flipped that watch. But now I'm actively trying to acquire a new Basel Exp I but I only plan to use it for casual evenings and weekends when I don't need the date.

The lesson I learned is that I bought the Ranger too quickly without really determining if I liked it. I saw it a few times in person but now I realize it wasn't singing to me even though it is a really nice watch. A lesson I think most go through. At least I didn't take much of a hit on it.

I would say I have never made a mistake. This hobby (and your personal tastes) evolves so I would simply say I am continuously evolving. :)
