I'm gonna go with the current 6 digits with a couple of exceptions.

I sort of like them all

That said I buy new ones because I don't know my arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to vintage. Some day I'll change that!

60's and 70's... I pretty much love anything from the golden era though!

I love all Rolexes, but love the 5 digit era the best, then the 4, then current.

As much as modern 6 digits are shiny, bling and glam; chromalight blue, ceramic bezel and glidelock clasp.
My heart is with the 5 digit era pre ceramic, the older case really sits well with me, physically and poetically.

There's a change to Rolex from 2003 for sports models having LEC, close lugs, SEL, parachrom hair spring and engraved rehaut.

F, D, Z, M, V, G 2003-2009
I believe Rolex makes their very best watches during this period, an industry leading game changer.

I like the modern era the best overall, but there are some models in each that I would be happy to own.

40's-60's was the best period for all watch brands IMO

Without a doubt the current 6 digit references. I'll never forget the first time I tried a Rolex on back in the early 00's. At the time I owned an Omega Seamaster Professional and I was shocked at how cheap and flimsy the clasps and bracelets were on a Rolex.

It really turned me off from the brand for several years, fast forward to today and I think Rolex makes the best bracelet in the business. I'm really happy they took that huge step forward.

Wow, yeah the crappy old old bracelets.

Possibly you are missing the point of a watch. It's not really about the bracelet.

70s for me.
I love a matte dial, tritium, acrylic, holes in the lugs, beautiful bevels.
Pure craftsmanship and pure character.
I do own and enjoy modern watches, but we cannot deny that the older models definitely look more like "tool" watches.

Has to be for me the 70s. That's when my collection began.
I just haven't warmed up to the super cases.

Its amazing how timeless these watches are, yet Rolex continues to evolve stylistically without losing appeal. I also feel like they keep upping their game technologically.

The early to mid 1960s was an interesting time for vintage Rolex. Although I have owned very few from that era, if I had to narrow it down based on the many that I have owned, I would vote for the early 1980s era. I love those quick set date watches.

Another vote for the 5-digit models... although I'd love a Sub Red too...

The mid 80s that's when you could buy a GMT two tone for around $2500 and I purchased a new 18K Daytona from an AD for $6000 with a discount because they couldn't give them away then because the President was so popular at that time.
