Without prior purchases, getting from a NY AD at that time will be tough. Although there are plenty out there to be had if you can talk your way onto the top of the list!

How could he get a BLNR and save a lot of money? Even at full UK list of £6550 ($7800) (and you can find one if you put a bit of effort in) it's still around £1000 cheaper than the USA price at current exchange rate....THEN the buyer needs to pay U.K. VAT. That makes for about the most expensive BLNR ever.

Unless I'm missing something?

By the time you get your Daytona new model Daytona would be in long production . I honestly don't see those numbers too realistic either.

I suspect Rolex will ramp up production next year.

They aren't idiots. And even though they want to keep it rare, it's unrealistic to expect AD's to leave so much money on the table, and to maintain 10+ year lists.

What's happening now is people are adding themselves to every AD's list that they can get on. This generates fake demand.

Now that I've said that, maybe Rolex turned out to be idiots with how they handled this. :(

I passed on playing this silly game, and got a mint 116509 Meteorite instead. :D

I got the call from my AD last Tuesday, picked up my White faced Daytona Friday the 23rd.
I purchased. DD40 last March and was put on the list at that time. As others have posted I asked what the discount was with as straight a face as possible. I almost thought I was taken advantage of until I spent time on the web seeing asking prices substantially more than my MSRP purchase. I was told that the owners discussed who the watch would go to and it would appear that flippers are rooted out as Rolex tracks the watch and if it is flipped it negatively affects the dealers relationship with Rolex. The watch is still in hiding from my wife as Santa was not as kind to her as he was to me.

Would hardly call the new ceramic Daytona rare just hard to get at retail, basically its still the old Daytona with slightly different dials and a ceramic bezel. And today many that are sold end up in the grey market, where there are 100s of them to choose from at silly prices to those willing to pay.

My take is the modern SS Daytona's is kept in low production as an inducement to buy the PM models. Price point is relatively low to PM models and the difficulty in obtaining the SS models gives a halo effect to the model. People tend to forget the previous model was still a wait listed product in many places right up untill it was discontinued.

I had an AD told me I have to spend $100k per year on watches and she can get me a 116500 right away. And two ADs told me they can get me the 116500 in less than a year if I buy the day date which I was looking into at that time; which I thought was a fair deal.
