No fake is better than the real deal. Set your standards high and don't settle for substandard accoutrements.

When he took it off for me to hold it was really apparent how fake it was - weight, clasp, dial font, date numbers were not crisp. I simply congratulated him and said he had a nice watch. No need to call him out or burst his bubble. He even went as far as to say Ben Bridge authenticated it.

It got me thinking... Would you point out the fake or let it be?
If he reads your posts on TRF then you can consider this a done deal!

He probably means from his monitor. Not on the forums himself.

I would only do it if it seems that the person has bought the watch believing it is real and needs to be informed that he was in fact scammed.

Only ever happened to me once and the guy owned up with good humor about 5 seconds after comparing watches. He had no intention of trying to pass it off as genuine and it was pretty obvious in a comparison.
I would not have called him out. Probably just have said "The black and gold is a nice combination".
People know what they pay and where they get these things. If they don't know whether it is genuine it's their problem.

Nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Personally, no, I wouldn't call somebody out. I would offer advice if solicited, but to be so forward as to call out a fake, is in very poor taste.

You're not fooling anyone, that's clearly a fake rubber band.

I have a guy at work who wears all kinds of fakes who knows I buy the real deal only. He asked me once why do I spend so much on authentic watches when I can get a fake that most people wouldn't know that it isn't authentic. My response was if there was a way to make a fake watch that was so realistic that no one could ever tell its not the real deal but I knew the truth then it would completely take the joy out of wearing the watch for me. He hasnt talked to me about watches since then.

I would continue asking questions about the place of purchase, when and how he came to the decision, why now, etc. Ask him to take me to the shop where he bought it as I would be intersted in purchasing such a beauty myself

Omg. Wow.
I would have said: you have a great sense of humor! ,ove the faxt that you make such an artistic statement to ridicule money/class/good tate/good manners by wearing such a wild "interpretation one-of-a-kind tribute" watch and confront others at the table with it. Then get up and refill my drink. Or something, to postpone having to return.

I'll check if any trusted seller has the Sub-Dweller more commonly know as the Surf & Turf - C.
Reaction absolutely depends ont he other person. Some people received theirs as gifts.
Some people buy a good fake to remind themselves of the target, I ran into more than one of those, some of who did eventually end up getting their own real deal. In fact I helped one of those realize his goal was much more reachable than he thought possible, helped him see the light so to speak, explained why purchasing fake isnt helpful to the original/producer.

You are right. I understand the various reasons people have for purchasing fake and I am not a supporter but for some people the real deal will always be out of reach.
I had a colleague who had a beautiful annual calendar midsized daytona....

There are generally two types of these guys, those that really like the real watches and maybe are saving up for one but for now don't have the means to buy, and there are those who just want to show off and brag. If they are of the first kind they are usually discrete and I would not say anything, if they are of the second I would just to shut them up.

That's the truth. I may never have tried a fake watch but I've tried fake accoutrements and those are for the birds.

In this case, why bother. Even if it was real believe me, the guy has already been labeled a douche at work just by virtue of his bragging. I just tend to stay out of needlessly creating resentments at work, it can only end badly in that environment.

Now, if it was a friend and I was with him when he was looking at the watch and considering the purchase, uh heck yeah I'd tell him.

I would never say any if they weren't throwing it in my face. If they said hey "nice rolex". Look at mine or if they came in talking about it. I would probably say something. I wouldn't say anything if i saw it and knew it was fake but they weren't bring attention to it.

Just like Benito Juarez said : "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace."

They have the right to do whatever they want with their fake watches, why should I bother?
