Just to be clear, you started this thread asking if people would buy a Tudor Sub that was exactly the same as a Rolex Sub, only with an ETA movement and Tudor logo. I took that to mean, if Tudor took a Rolex SubC, and the only changes they made were to put a Tudor logo on the dial and an ETA movement in the case, then reduced the price by a certain percentage, that's what you're envisioning. To reiterate my earlier point, I don't ever see that happening.

For some reason you turned the discussion into whether Tudor would start making their own Subs again, which, while similar to Rolex, were still discernibly different. That's a different question. I still don't see it happening, for the reasons I have already stated, but I grant that it at least is more likely than seeing a truly exact Rolex SubC replica under the Tudor name. I really see the latter as an impossibility.

I would say that if I wanted a Rolex, I would buy a Rolex. If I wanted a Tudor I would buy the Tudor. I have both a Rolex Submariner and a Tudor Black Bay Black in my collection. If Tudor had of been as strong in the market when I started with Rolex 25 years ago I might have go that direction. For me Tudor is not a substitute for Rolex it is a good alternative.

No, but I'd take about any former Tuder Sub over the current Rolex Sub.

Yes things did go off on a tangent somewhat.

Agreed no substitute just an alternative.

I sold three newer subs but kept my Tudor. So I know how what you mean.

I don't feel the 79090 and 1680 for example are all that similar actually so I don't think this situation would arise for me, they are too different and I'd buy based on merit and price as usual.

I see a few similarities, they share many parts other than movement and dial fonts.

Rolex pic unknown owner pic from google. Tudor is mine.

I have no data for that, but it's just as good a theory as yours, provided you're just theorizing. If you have numbers, I'm happy to see them.

I do have anecdotal evidence, however: my g/f's father wears an Invicta, because he saw one being sold on Shop NBC, and thought it looked nice. He doesn't know the first thing about watches other than you wear them on your wrist to be able to tell the time of day. Likewise, I was in a jeweler's that happened to sell Invicta, and the sales associate had no idea some of them were reminiscent of Rolex designs. I doubt he could have picked a Rolex out of a lineup without a logo, and this was a guy paid to sell Invictas.

All that is beside my point, though. My point was that since hack brands like Invicta are now cloning Rolex designs, it wouldn't make sense for Rolex's own brand to do the same. That would essentially reduce Tudor to the level of Invicta, which doesn't serve Tudor or its parent company.

An invicta 89260p is a good quality entry watch also favoured by WIS as well. I own a Tudor 79190 sub and a Rolex 16700. However I do like to tinker with my watches and I did not feel comfortable doing that with Amy of the two mentioned above. So I have purchased some invictas and have had a blast changing out crystals, dials hands etc etc...

I would imagine you are in a distinct minority as far as Invicta's average customer base goes. That would be a good slogan, though: "Invicta: Good for spare parts."

Thanks to those who participated and or voted. Based on the voting options 33.33% would buy or consider an eta Tudor Sub. , 66.67% an in house Rolex Sub. Interesting split.
