Maybe the battery needs to be replaced. It's got a battery right?

Yes. Take out the 3135 movement, put in a high quality quartz movement, and a good battery. Problem solved.

I believe Franck Muller and Antoine Preziuso, in their younger years, used a Rolex (Datejust?) case to house their respective retrograde(?) perpetual calender movements. The watches were, I believe, student pieces and still had "Rolex" on the dial.

Interesting that you should cite this. I have also read of students modifying actual DD movements into perpetuals sort of as a graduation exam. Concur, one of a kind, student pieces but demonstrated that it could be done. May not have been very durable, but with the pros involved....who knows.

It would be nice to have one of those student pieces, although I've never seen one for sale (not that I've been looking that hard).

maybe this could be an idea for Rolex to come out with a complication !!

let's say...the name....DateDwellerJust....officially COSC for transoceanic flights/time zone changes.

I know from personal experience that the task of changing the date on those non-31 day months is tough.
10 years ago, I gave my Mom a Rolex for a special birthday. Even though she wears this daily, probably more as jewelry than a time piece, it is only on the 3 or 4 annual times I see her that I personally change the date function on her watch.
Many times she has said that she just doesn't understand why for all the money that the watch is, it can't know what month it is and make the adjustment itself.
The comical thing is that I am the only person who can carry out this task....although she walks past a Mayor's or Hamilton's down in south Florida regularly. Doesn't trust them, only me.

I have got many wrong dates, some have cost me more than a watch.

So you can still be happy.

Lisa, your answer is at least partially right. I'm not sure if we determined that the date would be correct. It would either be correct, one day behind, or one day ahead. Still

Rolexers do it with perpetual movements.

Two points:
  1. I would like to thank you for reminding me to change my date.
  2. I wonder if any brilliant watchmaker has ever modified a Rolex movement, say a 3186, to be a perpetual calender or an annual calender? Anyone know?

This has to be one of the craziest threads I've seen in a while. Maybe it should be moved to the Jokes & Cartoons section and made a sticky there!!

Rolex like all mechanical watches have to be set manually and there are others that do not it is not difficult just unscrew the crown and pull out to the date stop and set it. I had to do my Sea Dweller today

The nature of this forum is good-natured 'ribbing' when questions like this are posted. Come on Anty...what did you expect? Obviously you are learning about mechanical watches, which is great, but to put it into perspective, this question is on par with going to a car forum and asking, "My new car won't start and the gas tank needle is on 'Empty'...anyone have some ideas of what might be the problem?"

I guess we all take for granted that ANY mechanical watch owner (regardless of make/model) would know that a mechanical (or quartz for that matter) watch requires some 'extra attention' that obviously is not associated with a digital watch w/ a 'brain'.

Hang around and learn more about these great watches...my prediction is in no time you will look back on this question, laugh a little to yourself and think, "Wow...did I really ask that? Now I get why I was the butt of so many jokes." No worries, everyone has to start somewhere with their learning. Cheers.

I see the need to adjust the date on my SD as a big problem. It has given me sleepless nights for the past 3 months since I bought it. Now I need to buy a Daytona to resolve this once and for all. Now I know why the Daytona is in such a high demand often no stock and need to pay a premium to acquire it.
