PDK all day long. It is probably one of if not the best trans out right now for any vehicle. It is quicker, better, faster than manual. When you want a little manual fun you can with the paddles and minus the third pedal it is just as fun.

PDK, there is no way you can replicate the shifts in manual....I have been a manual guy my whole life, but these new generation sports cars with these boxes do everything like double clutch in a perfect executed manner every single time.

Lots of good points here. Just to reiterate, this is not going to be my daily driver. This car is an after work/weekend fun car. Also, Where I will be driving this car has very little traffic. I'm leaning very heavily to the manual transmission as I always have been.

Definitely consider manual if weekender.
The satisfaction of doing a perfect rev matched heel toe downshift is phenomenal. 981 clutch is not heavy. Haven't tried 718. Don't expect a big change. |

Had a manual 997s. It was more engaging to drive than my 997 Turbo Tip. Turbo was way better in every other way.
I think you should get a 3rd pedal while you still can. I don't think this will be up for discussion in a few years. Please understand that this is from a guy who drove cars with three on a tree! |

I LOVE driving a stick. But I've realized that for a driver, I prefer an automatic. It creates a different, more relaxed, driving experience. If I get a few more garage bays, I'll get another manual, big until that happens I'll not sacrifice the chill, relaxed driving experience of an automatic transmission

FWIW the DSG trans Mercedes uses is having quite a high failure rate in its hi-po cars..........and I am also aware of PDK boxes being replaced in Porsche. While one is built by Getrag and the other by ZF they basically the same technology.
If form follows function.....that is......it continues to occur, expect resale values to be affected accordingly in 3-4 year old examples. If you end up going PDK do a closed end lease to hedge your bet at resale time. Always having the option to walk away is better than not having it. I've said over 1,000 P-cars since nice 1989 and only a small % keep them forever. Best. |

Nice choice on the black, love it. For me, I've driven my fair share of manual cars in my day but IMHO I'd go PDK all the way. Absolutely amazing.

I have a manual 2013 911 Turbo. It is by far the most exciting drive I've ever experienced. IMO if this is not your DD then you need to get the manual. I love downshifting through turns. Good luck!

I've driven manual and several PDK's on 911's.
If this is just a fun car and not a daily, I would go Manual all the way... No question. Enjoy! |

if its a "fun" car then stick shift all the way. if it is PDK it will just be like driving an automatic and no driver input at all

Really satisfying getting a smoothly executed heel and toe downshift under heavy braking.
Bought new pedals for the 911 with a slight extension on the gas pedal to make heel toe very easy to execute. Went ghetto with the S2000 and simply bent the gas pedal closer to the brake pedal. Can either roll ankle or literally stomp on the brakes with the ball of my foot and blip the throttle with the heel. Fun. And honestly will be a lost art one day. 3 pedals. 2 feet. Zero problems. :D |

In a weekend toy, thats not your primary means of transportation - manual 100%.
No matter how much I try to like, and enjoy auto, single / dual clutch, PDK etc for a 'weekend' ride - there is NOTHING you can get to give you the satisfaction of like shifting a gated / manual shifter. I recently gave a gallardo a go with the 'paddle' shifters and a single clutch transmission. Sure - while the 'unrefinement' of the single clutch and all its jerkiness gave the car some 'character' -- I was over it (paddle shifting) a week in and sold the car now looking to get back in a manual. It doesnt matter to me how 'fast' that makes it, how 'recent' that technology is, how 'fast' it shifts, or that its more 'convenient' at the track. I've driven for extended periods of time various PDK cars - everything from a Panamera Turbo to a 911 Turbo and seriously do not get what the big deal is. Its nothing more then a really refined automatic transmission to me. PDK does not magically infuse a 'personality' quotient to me that lasts past day 2. For a daily, traffic, commute car - sure its great --- but as long as my left foot allows it - for a toy my preference will always lean towards manual. Just hoping I don't keep paying $$ after $$ reconfirming that fact. |

PART II- Porsche guys and car guys give me your opinion.....PDK or manual?
I would definitely go with the manual! 100%. PDK acceleration might be few slivers of a second faster, but who cares? You'll never feel the difference. But with a manual, you will feel the fun.
It's a tragedy that sports cars are all going this way. I remember when 90% of Porsche's were manual and only a small percent were "automatic". Soon they'll all be self driving too. Get the manual while you still have the chance to take control of a true performance vehicle and really DRIVE it, instead of being driven by the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
