Thanks everyone. This is the only IWC I coveted due to the mixture of complications and the very traditional design and looks. Very impressive to transform a humble 7750 movement into this beast. I am not sure of the history of grand complication Watches although definitions vary on what constitutes a GC. For AP it is typically a Chrono/repeater/ perpetual and yet for Patek even a lowly perpetual qualifies. Given that this adds a rattrapante split module and a tourbillon I don’t think there is any dispute that this is a proper Grand Complication. If Patek made this combination of complications I really hate to think what it would cost! Being an unloved complex IWC this is a lot of Watch for the money! Calendar now adjusted. Very simple all done through the crown no fiddly pushers or sequencing instructions.

its interesting for sure that there isnt a specific definition generally. For AP you are correct, it has to have a chronograph, split second, minute repeater, and a perpetual calendar. If it doesn't not have all four its not a grand comp. I dont really understand what Patek uses as its criteria as it seems like multiple complications isnt a requirement. AP seems to have an actual definition for them though.

Actually the general definition of a grand complication watch was:

* a time complication;
* a calendar complication (in origin was: an "astronomical" complication);
* an acoustic complication.

Usually the first is a rattrapante chrono, but even a simple chronograph should suffice; the second is usually a perpetual calendar, but even a simple moon phase indicator should suffice, the third is usually a minute repeater but even a 5-minute can be enough.

In short, a chrono with a moonphase indicator and a 5-minute repeater make a grand complication.

Technically the tourbillon is not a time complication, even if it's more difficult to produce than a simple chrongraph.

This watch, a rattrapante chrongraph, plus a minute repeater with a full perpetual calendar with moonphase indicator and a 4-digit year indication, with a tourbillon escapement as a bonus, can be described as a "grand complication on steroids".
