Well I don't know what you need to drive in snow safely but the news here is of motorway crashes, cars in ditches etc. It obviously treacherous conditions and we're not used to it.

Any modern car can drive in an inch of snow without special tires. Reducing speed and not following too closely are the “secret” to avoiding collisions on slippery surfaces. We get the same knotheads here that drive like maniacs and end up in the ditch, or wrecked at intersectons. |

Oh lawd
And Abdullah is absolutely spot on; you need to be aware of your braking distances in those slippy conditions. Leave a big, safe gap between cars! And if possible, perhaps avoid steep inclines / declines! |

All depends on what you're used to/equipped to handle.
I was trying to imagine the effect of an inch of snow - sustained for several days - where I live. It would be absolute chaos. There would be nothing on the supermarket shelves, all the service stations would be out of petrol, there would be car crashes everywhere, lots of old folks would die in their unheated homes. Schools would be closed. A lot of people would have to buy their first coat and wooly beanie.

Still cold. More snow this afternoon. Thawing over the weekend.
Some people were stuck for fifteen hours on my train line from London Waterloo to Weymouth last night. So glad I'm working from home.

It's working well, thanks Mon and I've got my Setesdal sweater on to add a bit of Nordic ambience.
