And the verdict is ..... iPhone.

Thanks everyone for your insight and feedback

Everyone at work uses either an 8, or an X, there’s only a straggler or two use Samsung. I couldn’t justify the cost of an X, so that was out. I could hardly justify the cost of the 8 over the SE, but, battery life and storage won out I guess.

Day two awaits.

Guess I didn't buy one from a trusted seller.

Your post sounds like typical Apple fanboi rhetoric.
Haha, I definitely didn’t mean to come off as a fanboy. Just so you know I’ve been very critical of Apple for a long time. I’ve also been on the Samsung camp many times before.

It’s not about how much you spend but it how the brand retains perceived value and keeps the coolaid pouring. It’s kind of like Rolex never going on sale but Omega eventually do. The perception of Rolex retains but the perception of Omega doesn’t.

It’s plain old product strategy.

I know I'm too late to the party, but once you go Google phone, you don't go back.

I had a nexus 6p which lasted over two years a D it fi ally broke falling from high grounds.

I refused to pay a grand for a phone, but had no choice. Did a little research and went with Pixel 2xl.

Should have done it when it came out...

Our work supplies iphone or Samsung. Went sith s8+ and it's no comparison to my Pixel.
I used to be a Samsung phone person.

I generally find a platform and stick with it. I have an iPod, iPhone and iPad, and love how they are all interconnected. Can’t see any reason to change brands and mess that up.

I understand your point. Just remember, all these electronic devices can't be compared to something like a Rolex watch. All phones regardless of brand or platform are regularly obsoleted within a few years. And with phones, many folks always want the latest and greatest. I would imagine most folks keep a smartphone on average 2-3 years tops, before moving up to something newer. My Note8 works well for my needs. The pen allows me to write a grocery list right on the screen and save it for my Walmart shopping excursions. No need for pen and paper anymore.

I dunno... every year after Basel the watch world comes unglued trying to buy the latest utterance from Rolex. Sounds a lot like new iphone releases to me. Then, there’s the chronic flippers...

You’ll love it. iCloud is a good service also and you can use on pc also. There are cheaper providers but they make it easy. You pay for the easy.

Now, get a Macbook for home and an Apple TV. Directtv now has a deal where you can get a Apple TV for 3 months prepay. You can cancel anytime. You get an Apple TV for ~$100.

My kids get a kick out of seeing themselves on tv.

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and I'm very pleased with it. I have an iPad Air 2 but there are some things I'm just not crazy about with that device. Namely, you can't download files easily on it and it seems like everything has to be done through itunes. I use my Samsung phone as a wireless hotspot to get internet for my tablet though because I like the size of the iPad for web surfing and e-mail and such. Android just seems to be easier to use and gives you more control and options.

My last phone was a Samsung S6 and transferring everything to the new phone was super easy.

There are pros/cons to open/closed systems

Open - Samsung
Closed - Apple

I’m a fan of closed systems in most cases. Phones and computers.

I'm a business owner and use an SE. I choose it for the smaller size and don't need or care for the latest and greatest. I'm still amazed at all the things this phone can do.

I am really interested in the new Blackberry (YES Blackberry) Key 2. It seems to be fighting against the tide and marketing a phone for grown-ups. I just need to see if Verizon will be offering it. Comes out in a couple of weeks in the US.

Not a fan of the cult of Apple but do acknowledge that they make a quality product. I had to use one at work and carried a personal Samsung and I prefer the Samsung. I also like the Android operating system better. Just got the new Samsung 9 and could not be more pleased. My daughter has the iPhone X and swears by it. She also has the Mac book and tablet from Apple so she is all in. Look at Consumer Reports on the comparisons and choose.

I'm kind of a cheapskate when it comes to cell phones. I've always had android, and I've always bought them used although from the more reputable online sources. I don't really depend very heavily on my cell phone for work purposes like many of you do, so I guess that's why I've never worried a whole lot about it's capability or quality, more about price.

I've owned LGs and Samsungs, and they have never really lasted more than a year without significant problems. My last Samsung went black and there was no way to fix it (went through all the online research).

I decided to buy a brand new SE (I actually prefer the smaller size) that I found online at Best Buy on some kind of clearance sale for 200 bucks. It's been great and I really like it. Of course, I haven't had it a year yet, but it seems very reliable and solid so far. After signing up with iCloud, I have had no problems at all accessing my photos from my pc at home or at work.
