I have a 911 and honestly I love the fact that I could daily it if I wanted to. It is more under the radar than a Ferrari and maintenance costs are likely much lower. That being said, I do plan to add a Ferrari to the stable one day.

Given that it will only be a weekend car, I think the older Ferrari will hold its value better than a newer Porsche while giving you the same amount of fun. It truly is a toss up. I would probably go with an older 911 (mine is a 2007 that I love).

I don't like the look of most Ferraris, I've been in a few (Italia, f430, 599), never drove myself though but I do know what the sound and feeling is like. It's just not for me. I prefer the lines of an older 911, much more understated as well.

I'm not the type of guy to ever buy an exotic car, even if money were no issue.

The same thing that makes someone a stainless steel or a two tone guy.
Different taste.

It's okay to like different things, else we'd have only one kind of watch and one car to drive.

I think ducatis are sexy, but i would never own one to ride. I'd put it in a living room. I HATE twins, but i think a ducati is sexy. They are not reliable, they are expensive, and they break a lot. So having a choice, i would buy an inline 4 over ducati any day.

I'm an inline-4 type of gal.

Why question someone's taste?

In the end, they are both gorgeous cars. Richard asked for opinions. That's what he's getting. Relax

A newer 911 is the better car on paper but I’d argue that for a weekend fun car, the most important thing is how it makes you feel when you drive it. I think the Ferrari would be the better choice.

I have owned both Ferraris and Porsches. Currently in garage is a 1997 993 C4S.

That said, there is nothing like owning a Ferrari. The looks, the sounds, and the maintenance bills...

You have a budget and trying to get the best value out of those dollars. The ownership experience is now how money will be spent. Older cars will incur maintenance and potential repair bills while new cars have depreciation costs; pick your poison.

The fun part for me is in the chase finding a well maintained older car to minimize repair bills during ownership since it will be a weekend fun car.

I would look at the following cars around your budget $80-100K:

F360 manual
GT4 manual
07-09 Porsche turbo

Regular young Porsche 911s will have depreciation. Old school air cooled 911s are excellent weekend rides. Air cooled Porsches were built when the company were engineers first and business men second. You will not lose any dollars on depreciation and very reliable if bought correctly. They have a unique charm and are not as fast as modern cars but F360s are not that fast unless you rev it up anyway. F360 with a documented recent major service is also a good buy.

Exotics are in a whole different ballpark of feel compared to Porsches. I've owned several of both - and my conclusion is that the Porsche will live more on the road (way more use out of it) and an exotic (Lambo / Ferrari) will live way more in your head (how you feel about owning one and emotions derived from it). Figure out which one is more important to you. In a perfect world? I'd have both.

Love your Lamborghini! Had a yellow Gallardo a few years ago! I enjoyed it but, I enjoyed the Ferrari experience more. I think I like curves more than angles...if that makes sense?

I rid myself of the exotic bug with a 360. It was a great car and a bunch of fun but from a pure performance standpoint in 2018 I’m afraid there are far more ordinary cars that are more exhilarating. As for the Porsche unless it’s a Turbo I think I’d stick to the utilitarian when it comes to the Germans. Now, if you were talking about a 458....

Thank you! I like Ferrari as well - but I have never owned one yet so can't comment.

One of the reasons I'm with my current Lamborghini is I was able to pick up the last 6 speed cars to come out of Italian exotic factories (Ferrari/Lamborghini). Its a 2013 and by that time Ferrari ceased gated shifters many years back. I do want to try a Ferrari someday though in the near future...

I think that's one of the best reasons to pickup an older Ferrari is for that gated shifter experience - no matter the model of the car.

I know a few guys with Ferrari’s and they love them. But none would consider them a daily driver. Reasons range from comfort to maintenance/ general wear and tear. This is in Houston where we have lots of potholes and uneven roads.

So if you are looking for a daily driver I’d go Porsche. If a weekend car then the Ferrari. Both great, will be a fun choice to make.
