King of all Daytonas?? Highly subjective question...I’m sure if you’d have asked that question originally...you’d get many different opinions on which Daytona is the best or “king” :)

I mean from the new, actual Daytonas, no vintage.

If Vintage them the 6263 is for me the king

Yes...I’d agree as far as modern goes...it’s the flagship Daytona. Special dial, platinum, exclusivity, price tag, etc... You’ll still get many arguments why SS is king, some don’t like the colors, same movement for triple the price, etc...but yes, it’s the top tier Daytona (IMO)
I agree with your assessment on the 6263 but I’m biased

OK, so it's not dripping with diamonds and other terrible bling bling cliches, but that doesn't mean it's understated, let alone 'pure' understated.

The model has been out five years. You don't see many, because people who travel in 'normal people' circles, don't spend that much money on a watch, but that doesn't mean it's flying under the radar.

Personally I much prefer the 116519LN, which is attractive but (a) more understated -it's a $30k watch which doesn't have a flashy/ shiny precious metal bracelet catching the sunlight; and (b) more sporty and masculine looking - I'm only 40-ish and not really ready to move to a delicate little retirement village where we'll watch the world go by while timing it with a luxury sports watch in some sort of metallic pastel baby-blue.

Still, takes all sorts to make a world.
I agree with one part of the above -

"Still, takes all sorts to make a world."

As a guy who and travels in "normal people" circles while happily wearing my apparently not "masculine looking" sports watch with "some sort of metallic pastel baby-blue" dial I'll respectfully disagree with the rest.

FWIW, in my 1 1/2 years of ownership, not a single moment of doubt. But I still get a thrill out of putting it on first thing every morning. Buy it right....keep it forever!

It's not really a nickname, just a shortening, much like Sub. The brown did inspire a similar nickname when it first came out but that was quickly poo pooed.

I don't think the photographs do this watch the justice that it deserves. That blue dial is spectacular in person. Also, the weight of this watch is a constant reminder that you are wearing something special.

To any "normal" person the watch looks like steel, because that is what they are used to seeing. No one knows it's platinum unless they know the brand's signature ice blue dial. I'd say it's pretty under the radar, especially for what it is.

If you love it, and can afford it, I'd say go for it! Life's short..

I find I am reminded of the weight of the watch when I put it on, but it melts away in no time. I only notice the weight thereafter if I think about it.

In my year and a half of daily wear, I've had one friend ask if it was a Daytona. And a cashier at Costco said, "Nice Rolex." Other than that, you have to go into a nice jewelry store if you want it to be noticed. Yeah, it's pretty under the radar, IME.

I wouldn't call it a poseur watch because so few people know what it is or would recognize it beyond being a Rolex.

That said, I think it's stupid-expensive for the typical WIS, but for those that can afford it, it has presence and heft and is uniquely special.

I wouldn’t say understand, it has presence. It’s not a poser watch either. Jewel encrusted or those watches so large they look like clocks are poser.
I love the look and have tried one on. I was awestruck. I’ve started down the slippery slope of rationalizing that I “need” one.

The most appealing Rolex to my eyes. After that, maybe a gold Sub or DD

I got one of the first ones out over 5 years ago. I have all the other Professional models in multiple metals. this watch is my daily wearer and so good, so amazing, so perfect that I have to force myself to occasionally wear one of my other watches

to me it is the Best of the Rolex Best

Is someone wearing his Platin Daytona on an Oysterflex? Is this possible? How does it look?

I really like them, understated they are not...at least to someone in the know. I spotted one on a chap instantly while he was walking down the street in Aspen a couple weeks ago. This is only the second I have seen in the wild.

In all fairness, that is like saying a '73 911 S is not understated compared to a '76 911, because those in the know realize how special it is.

It’s a great watch that receives lots of love. It’s just not my favorite color combo to a large degree because I have an ex-wife who really liked brown and blue together as a home decor color combo. I acknowledge my front end bias.

Does someone know the price of the two different dials? How much are they each? Are they easy to get via an AD?

Thanks for helping

I seem one in the wild. I was in Texas traveling for work and when i arrived at the client i saw an employee wearing one. They certainly grab your attention, i knew exactly what it was from well across the room. They are WAY out of my price range but i think they are just beautiful. How fun would this hobby be if we didn't have something to strive for?

I believe sticker price in the US is 75K for the "regular" dial and 85K for the diamond. I've seen both at my AD at different times. If you are a buyer, an AD should have no problems getting one for you in a short period of time, say a couple of weeks.

Thank you yes, no problem to get the watch. But I mean only the dial, how much is one?

Thanks
