There are only a handful of people that I would count as a "very good friend" and not only would I sell them a watch I would make them a great deal on it. If there were any issues with the watch or they simply felt it wasn't for them then I'd buy it back. The value of my close friendships far outweigh anything in my watch box.

I have a simple rule. I never do any form of business with friends or family. I give gifts, but they are not business deals and they never have any conditions or strings attached. To me business and friendship are like oil and water.

It's not ideal in my opinion, he might change his mind in a while and think it's fine to give it back just because you are friends.

Unless you thought the friend would be insulted or upset if you didn't sell to them, I'd steer clear.

On less expensive items I would be happy to sell to friends. On a watch that costs thousands of dollars I would not. Too many chances for an issue and I typically would not push as hard for my best price as I am friends. I also would not want to look at my former watch all the time and think that I should not have sold it or I want another back.

If it’s a close friend, I give. Not sell.
