Unpolished or damaged?

It’s a scratched watch. You are paying good money. Have it polished and it will look better.

It’s like saying u r proud of what damage others have done to ur property. Wear it with pride. Just saying.

Please understand vintage does not equal abuse.

I blame it on autoconnect.

Clearly it’s a very personal preference issue. However, in my colllecting, I don’t mind some nice patina on the case etc. Heavy damage and abuse is a different issue and I avoid those examples. I wouldn’t search for a vintage piece thinking to just polish it - not wise for value retention plus I appreciate them more with at least some wear.

This is a watch listed on HQ Milton:

Using the list price of $5750 with box and papers, what would you pay for the Unpolished example I posted beforehand with no papers?
What would I pay for the Explorer II in the first post? That is a tough question for many here but for me, I'd find a nicer example. It clearly has had much finer days.

Polishing isn't a bad thing. It's almost become demonized with the obsession for unpolished these days. If done properly there's nothing wrong with purchasing a watch that has been polished a few times in its life.

I agree. It’s a personal preference issue that can affect value. I’ve had a few older cases recut and polished myself that were simply too far gone.

Looking at the pictures right here it is really obvious that this watch has been used for a long time and it is worn out

Is the well worn, unpolished watch more desirable then a polished, serviced one?
