Your biggest disappointment

My disapoointment was to get a YM Platinum and in a weak I realized I was similar to a TAG Heuer. I sold it inmediatelly

Selling my 5 digit sea dweller and not picking up the 6 digit sea dweller before it was discontinued for the red text sea dweller. That 6 digit seadweller minus the cyclops was so under appreciated imo

I waited for over a year for the LVc. When I opened the box, I saw the brushed bracelet and thought it looked horrendous. (I prefer PCL.) I don't think I'll be able to buy another watch with brushed center links again. (I know us PCL lovers are in the minority.)

My biggest disappointment is not about a particular watch model which is maybe what this thread is really about, so maybe my reply is out of place...but I will leave it here anyway since it's how I feel:

The availability from Rolex and within their own distribution system of SS sports models is a huge disappointment for me personally. I just don't understand how any company in any business that manufactures a product to sell can design those products, introduce those products to the world and show pictures and hold events where people can see "prototypes" in the flesh, all in an effort to create demand among their loyal client base in acquiring these pieces...and then...there are simply none to be had through their authorized dealer network and the way to get one is to play these games where it's "if you buy a 30K PM piece, then maybe we will take pity on you and agree to sell you a GMT." Or..."we can put you on a waiting list. Currently there are 100 people on the list and we think we will get 4 per year, so in 25 years we may be able to get you one!".

I can think of no other company who operates this way. Plus, the shortage doesn't really seem to be a shortage. There is ample supply with the hawkers in the Diamond District of NYC. The Grey's have inventory. But I can't walk into the official Rolex dealer and even try one on. In a word...It's absolutely ridiculous.

Imagine General Motors releasing a new vehicle model, taking to all the auto shows where people can see it and touch and and sit in it and fall in love with it, and then when you want to buy one, there are zero GM dealers that have the vehicle and can't even get one for years. Plus, the vehicle has an MSRP of $40,000 but the dealer can't get you one. But some other car reseller called "David's Cars" happens to have 3 brand new ones on his lot and he is happy to sell you one today for $50,000. Who the hell operates a business this way? Rolex...that's who.

Well maybe that's why Rolex isn't letting the AD's have any stock...so we all we have to go by are the online pictures?

As to the OP's question, my biggest disappointment is probably not being able to get a decent fit on the YM2. One of the best looking new models to roll out of Basel in recent years (IMO), but just couldn't wear it.

My mom wanted to give me my late father’s 1995 Rolex GMT Master II that had been in a safe for about 15 years. My “disappointment” was my imagining a beat up, scratched up, non-working Rolex watch from years of wear and storage.

It looked brand new!! I cried. I wear with pride (on an Everest strap).

The 114060 I wanted so badly and then hated once I got to only end up flipping it for another 14060M ha!!

Trying on a Sky Dweller to find it was too large for my smaller wrists.

Wish Rolex would release a 40mm version, but I doubt its going to happen or even feasible (I imagine the complex movement requires the diameter the current watch has).

Another disappointment is the AD letting me try on a WG Oyster-flex Daytona and knowing it’s not in the cards for me currently to afford the piece. Still my favorite current reference Daytona.

TUDOR.

Owned both a BBN and NF. Too chunky and grew tired of them quick. Tried on a Ranger and BB41 but both lacked character. The BB58 is a huge step in the right direction. We have seen dealer inventory and abundance of Tudor watches and know they can crank out some production, but trickling BB58 out as if trying to make Tudor the next Rolex.

I'm kinda new to this game, but I went to try on a Tudor North Flag and it felt like a plastic child's toy compared to my TT DJ41.

I really wanted to like it and leave the store with it. Didn't happen. I did think it looked in person, better than I though it would.

I have several polarizing watches in my collection, so take my opinion for what it's worth. I am sure someone could easily find something I own that they dislike. For me, the biggest disappointment was the Explorer. I loved how it looked in pictures, I loved the simplicity, what it stood for. It just didn't look right on me. I flipped a Milgauss for it which I will always regret. I have yet to add the Milgauss back into my collection.

My biggest Rolex surprise was the 116610LV. I just loved the way it looked in the window one day after hating it for years. Walked into the AD and bought it right there and then.

Biggest surprise of all time: the Speedmaster Professional. I expected literally nothing. I figured 3k wasn't a lot to spend on a watch everyone raves about. I love it for everything that it is. It's my cheapest watch, yet one I could never part with.

My only disappointment was waiting 30+ years to get my GMT Master. I dithered and talked myself in/out of it the entire three decades.

But things work out in the end. Got it when I was ready for it, I got the GMT Master II 16710 instead of the GMT Master 16700/16750 and I prefer it.

45.5 planet ocean. Cant fault the engineering in the watch but the size of it did my head in. Ended up losing money and swapping to a 114060, never looked back.

The 5711/1A is obviously a find in today's market but it is really no comparison to a Rolex in terms of wear, feel and ruggedness. The Rolex clearly wins to me if you want a sports watch plus you can spend the difference elsewhere.
