As an aside, who makes more money on the sale of a watch ? The AD does !! even selling at retail !!!

That’s dirty.

However, “this is the business we’ve chosen.”

It’s all part of the game. When you do get your desired reference it will be that much sweeter.

Yeah, very poor business form. Would be rather disappointed too. Glad you are in the process of acquiring your SD43 from TRF member, enjoy!

^^ was gonna say what sub did he offer you, just a black face SubC? If it was, I know it wasn't what you wanted but to wait 24 hours to get a watch which has a decent waiting list atm in the UK then it's not so bad.

Seems to be the norm these days...I was having the same conversation with an AD this week. Told him I bought all of my watches used and he looked pretty surprised.

Who was it it?

Name and shame, then we can all boycott the store.

Woeful, woeful tactics by yet more low-grade AD staff.

I would have asked to use the restroom and just pee on everything in there. That is a jerk move by the AD

I believe ADs that treat customers like this will get their reward when economies slow down and legitimate customers deselect them when making jewelry and watch purchases.

Bait and double switch up, very poor form, I would have given the whole staff a loud rollicking, let them know they are out of order and they don't get an easy diffident English way out of it, they get Al Pacino!

If it were here in the states, you could file with the better business bureau as it sounds like bait and switch.

Rofl - my post earlier was based on diffident English! I didn’t think my al Pacino effort would do anything apart from get me banned......

That's an awful experience Jason. It's very disrespectful and a waste of everybody's time and energy. Leave a Google review and rating on their listing about your experience.

Who was the salesperson, name him in the review.

Frustrating day in London

Sorry to hear about your experience. They should just have told you this up front. The sad part of this type of business practice is they most likely lost a good relationship with a watch enthusiast that would have probably bought again in the future.

Hope you end up finding the SD you want from a company that appreciates your money.

Very poor form. So many similar stories ... "if only you would act more like a grey dealer and purchase more of the other stock, which you probably really don't want, then we can let you have watch xyz..." makes me think, in the words of Baldric of Blackadder fame, they have a "clever plan".

Atrocious is a good description. Without a second thought the word Diabolical came to mind.

No matter what we call it, it's simply not the way to treat people.

Good luck bud,
Mark

Sounds ridiculous and certainly done on purpose. I asked regarding the DaytonaC / GMT Pepsi in WoS Bham however they just said straight for VIPs only and the list sales person showed me had spent c£150k that year! However I can say some other stores in different regions at least would consider to put you on the ‘list’.

Possible way ahead. Step 1 - ensure their return policy would allow returns on jewelry for long enough to do the rest. Step 2 - Buy something that costs $15,000. Step 3 - Buy the Rolex. Step 4 - Return the thing you bought for $15,000. Step 5 - Tell them to F off. Step 6 - Enjoy your new watch.

Disgusting tactics by the AD. You must return there and proudly display your new watch when you get it. Did you ever mention this horrible failed transaction to the store manager? They need to know. Enjoy your new watch, best of luck with it.

Sucks but it seems to be the norm going forward. The execution was way off though, should have talked about the spending necessary.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I actually prefer the transparency of some dealers that say you spend x and then you can get this watch at y. It beats being on some lists that only the salesperson/ad/god know if they really exist.

I would’ve taken the salesman’s name and complained to head office.
It’s unacceptable.
