I do have to add if you're a good customer then there is no shortage, but just a slight delay.

Coming back into the Scene 2 months ago I had no clue about how things had changed. Who would have thought that I would come back onto the scene and it would be hard to find something simple as a submariner black. I’m just curious how long has this stainless steel issue with Rolex been going on ? 6 months , 2 years ??
I think that it has been going on since the big tudor launch...

Just wanted to contribute some actual data to this thread. I bought my BLNR in the San Francisco Bay Area last year (2017) in June. At the time, I went to three different ADs, and each one had a BLNR sitting in the case. The one I bought eventually came out the back with a coffin, with the AD telling me they had 3-4 BLNRs in stock in total. During my survey, each of the places also had basically every SS model on display, besides obviously a Daytona. About 2 months later I was seeing post from people in the Bay Area lamenting inability to find more basic models like a no-date/date black sub.
edit: also, at the time this was my first purchase from all the ADs, and all of them were trying pretty hard to get my business - it seems like business wasn't so good back then.
