No at all. If they are, show me some that sold and I'll dump mine.

There all types of "collectors," no matter what you collect. There are thousands of collectors here on the forum and many strive to collect the best example of whatever there particular watch preference is with Rolex - whether NOS or not. We don't necessarily need to wear every watch we collect.

Yup. Essential lessons I've learned so far (and there are many more to learn):
1. You don't need to wear everything you have, especially if it's essentially a college fund on a flimsy 1960s bracelet. 2. You don't need to own everything you like (this one will save you a fortune in the long run, whether in watches or otherwise ). Like they say, don't own a yacht; just have a friend who does. |

I bought my 16750 in 2002, I paid $2k for it, that was fair market value and more than I had ever spent on a watch. My fabulously stylish boss thought I was a sucker for spending that much on such a dated and clunky watch whereas I could have gotten a very modern and sexy Raymond Weil like he had for the same money. Also bought my ‘72 SMP from the same dealer for $800, again, fair market value....my boss cringed at my purchase as he showed me his quartz Cartier.....yeah.

Which brings up the next question- like any investment market, how prone is the watch market to instabilities in the economy? I wasn’t aware of price fluctuations in watches back then because I wasn’t a serious collector, I just bought what I could afford. With these NOS watches being clearly purchased as investments, are the investors concerned about a bubble economy and potential crash? Perhaps I should hold off on getting that Navitimer 608 I want until I can pick it up from someone who needs money to full up his Hummer so he can deliver pizzas.
