Jen, How about getting a dog? They are wonderful companions and add 'watch dog security'. Our little critter barks at people that have the audacity to walk down the sidewalk 50' from the house, let alone anyone that eners the front yard.

UPDATE....

I had a very nice and professional electrician come out today.

I had a short in some wiring in my hallway. I had to have holes cut in my wall and like 80 feet of wiring replaced... but I've got my power back
