What's to say that the same person could have given her a Timex and it wouldn't have meant as much to her?

Storm in a teacup, guys.
I would have to agree, no big deal. That kind of money for jewelry is nothing big to many.

And pointed out mine at the same time. Her response... knocked me for a complete loop! Of course I was friendly and courteous on the outside but on the INSDIE I was shaking my head in disbelief. I don't know, maybe I'm over sensative... or letting stupid things bother me.... or maybe I'm just weird, but anyway, here is what happened:

She smiles (very nice and attractive young lady by the way) and looks at the watch, and says: "Yes.. well, at least I think that's what it is" She shows it to me and I almost hit the floor when I realized I was looking at a brand new WG Daytona with Meteroite dial. I was a tad speechless but said: "Thats a beautiful looking watch, have you had it long?" She replies: "I just got it as a Christmas present... really didn't know what it was, I just like big watches...is it really a Rolex? I complimented her on it again, thanked her for the time and returned to my seat... and did this to the back of the seat in front of me:

It's none of my damm business, and with poverty, the economy, world hunger, pollution etc., there are more important things to occupy my thoughts, but I just couldn't comprehend how someone would have what to many of us is a grail, 35 thousand dollar watch and be so non-chalant (is that how you spell it?) about it. It's kind of like if you cherished Ferraris, and somone drove up in your dream car and you complimented them on it, and they respond "Oh is that a Ferrari?" That's a heck of a Christmas present, it's just incomprehensible to me how somone could receive such a significant item as a 35 K Rolex and not even realize what they had... (?). And before anyone asks, It was DEFINITELY REAL.

I don't know... I guess I'm just weird but does anyone here understand what I'm talking about?

I think it's real...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a real Rollie. Don't mean to offence that lovely lady, but she could have got it by ways of other than as a gift given by someone. I remember I was in Zurich many years ago. I was going up a mountain on a tram one morning and saw a young man in uniform who checked passengers' tickets and who at that time looked in his early 20s. He was sporting a white face, SS Daytona. I didn't think it was a fake. Indeed I was kind of jealous. How could this happen but it just happened?! It's not a small world actually.

I say it might be gift...but to be ignorant of something worth $25k is unbelievable..you can't just say I don't know I just like big watches makes me think..its written right there Rolex..you think if the guy who gave it to her says it's a casio you think she wouldn't mind?

Good greif, I doubt this post would have has so many "claims to be fake" if it was a guy wearing a Platinum DD. But because it's a modest female flight attendant it's a fake??? Well, to me it sounds as if you are as smart as you are dumb.

Maybe she just want to shock you, maybe the person that gave her the watch was a TRF member. She just want to enjoy the watch like we do.

I am surprised by all the answers, of the watch being fake just because she's a flight attendant.

For all we know, she gave that answer to avoid more talk of the watch. Imagine some stranger on a bus points out that you have a platinum day-date on. Now everyone knows you are the guy with the expensive watch. Some people don't like the attention.

Another scenario, since she didn't know what it was, it could have been a gift. It could have been just another watch to her and she could care less about what brand it is. I know I don't google gifts I receive from people to see how much they cost.

Fake, if somebody very wealthy was throwing gifts at her they would have gotten her another watch you know, or an ss daytona, why a wg model? I mena she was clueless about it, but then again anything is very possible

Neat story. It's funny how people are so quick to jump onto the fake bandwagon.

It still doesn't prove it's a fake. It just probably means she's playing "dumb" to avoid conversation about her watch.

If waiters and busboys can wear Rolex watches than a flight attendant can have a WG Daytona.

I could show you a lot of people like that...but I'm pretty sure the stewardess was just talking herself out of an awkward situation to start with.

fake. Its like having a $30,000 diamond ring and not knowing if its real or not. I read some where that the fakes out number the real one now. Some fakes look as good as the real deal....even the pros are having a hard time spotting a fake.

I hate to say this to all those who are surprised. Remember, this flight attendant worked on a NY to LA route. If she was truly young and attractive, there are a lot of people who will throw crazy money at young women to woo them. I live in both the "Silicon Valley" in Nor. Cal and "Silicone Valley" in LA. Attractive women will be given crazy gifts and have no clue to the true worth of the gift. They just know it was a lot.

I worked in both the entertainment industry and the internet industry, and I can tell you that I've seen some crazy gifts. Back in the first dot.com bubble, I saw gifts worth $50k+ given out like it was a greeting card and then passed on to an underling. Recently, I had a studio exec call and ask if there was a way he could order 3 new Aston Martins online as gifts to be delivered.

Yes, these are troubled economic times but the crazy stupid rich are still throwing around cash. (unless they got taken by Madoff)

Sounds like I need to fly AA more often to NY. The flight attendants I get are a lot older and show their mileage. That's why I love flying Virgin America... they're all young and perky.
