Speculation is futile and just a parlor game regarding this topic. You’ll know soon enough in a few months. Next topic...

I think they’ll update this year and then introduce an anniversary color combo 8 years later for the 75th.

I once thought that the release of a precious metal sub on Oysterflex bracelet with new movement was imminent (within a couple years anyway).

Now I’m not sure because of the new 42mm YM that was released. I’m not sure what to think since that’s out now.

Baselworld is months after the 01-01-2020 price increase. An across-the-board price increase will also affect models destined to be eliminated later in the year.

No updated Sub at Basel 2020?

With recent price increased i doubt they willnupdate the ss sub. 2x price increase in One year is not rolex move. Maybe tt or gold but not ss. So maybe 2021.

The green anniversary theme continued with the new generation ceramic bezel sub, here’s my quandary, we are only 3 years away from the Sub’s 70th Birthday, will Rolex hold off until 2023 to overhaul the range and introduce a 70th anniversary edition, 3 years is not long when you consider the development process for a newer evolutionary model of the iconic Submariner

Interested in anyone else’s thoughts on this ???

Regards

Sean
What is stopping Rolex from updating the Sub this year with new movement and sharper lugs like the GMT’s and then offering a 70th anniversary model in 2023 say with red writing on dial?

The so called upgrade on thinning the GMT lugs cannot even be measured and forget about seeing any difference with the naked eye. Don't get excited about that.

A new movement might happen if they used up enough of the stock movements, also nothing to get excited about. Just a normal evolution, not better or worse if compared to the 31 series.

They could easily update the movement to the 3235 in 2020 and just put the crown between "Swiss and Made'" below the 6:00 marker and leave the rest of the watch the same since the case, bracelet, and bezel were just upgraded several years back. They already have the 3235 and would call it a 126610 just as they did last fall with the Yacht-Master. New movement, crown added below the 6:00 marker, and new reference number - same case and bracelet. The older 1166XX Yacht-Master with the 3135 movement compared to the new 1266XX with the 3235 movement is $250 more so the Sub with the 3135 could easily get the 3235 and go up $250.

Personally I feel that any updated movement will be put into a PM model first. SS to follow a year later

This. They don’t want to have too many movements to produce and service under warranty (same as software companies having too many versions). I don’t think it’s all that complicated. Produce until they are out of parts and move on to 3235.

When that’ll be... Only Rolex knows.

There surely will be an update of PM Subs this year. Anything else is a speculation. As to why prices risen .... common sense, all move in line and upping the old model just leaves the new one look cheaper when released.

If you had a chance to buy a 114060 now Would you do it or Would you wait to see what Basel 2020 will bring? This is assuming a purchase to wear not to invest.
Seems like the potential movement update and maybe slug slimming might be a good reason to wait. The reason not to wait is the uncertainty with the current stock situation.

Asking for a friend..

As somebody in a similar situation my answer is but it, wear it, enjoy it. Forget about Basel and what might or might not get released.

The Sub will receive the new movement this year. I am sure. But it may well be like the Yacht-Master last year, as in they released the 42mm WG Yacht-Master but the 126622 had very little press about the change.
