(3) Just wanna try different materials than stainless steel

and when I saw it today for the first time in the light - WOW its really took my breathe away: to me this just confirms my decision
and its not heavy at all :)

Thanks again guys
Great decision. You will not regret it!!!

However, A/P does seem to pop out a lot of chronographs, whether RO or ROC, most on the high side of 40mm. And a lot of them are L/Es. And I don't see how adding a platinum bezel should increase the value of this particular model by $20K. I've owned a three A/P chronos and my experience was that they do not hold their value, RO buyers want the basic three hand model or the 15202.
I don't dislike the 26631IP but on a trade basis I definitely think the guy taking the 5164a is getting the better end.
I think the size, objectively measured when including the lugs and the overhang where the bracelet strap connects makes it larger than watches, like a Daytona, though the dial size is roughly the same, the watch appears and wears bigger since it sits on a greater area of the wrist.

FWIW, these seem to have held up in value when I was considering this vs the regular ROC in October, but then again all RO and ROC seem to be holding better in value in the current watch craze and financial asset bubble than they used to only 2-3 years ago.

Looks like both sides are happy, and for certain circles in Asia, I think it's a killer watch to have stand out from the sea of Pateks.

the patek is more classic and more value in the long term.

AP is going fashion just like Hublot.

AP will look nicer in a short term, but u will regret later selling ur aqua.

keep the classic aquanaut.

I don’t think an AP Royal Oak can be called fashion and compared to Hublot.

It has more history just in its clasp than the Aquanaut will ever have. Only joking, but seriously the two are not comparable history wise anyway. It’s not a patch on the Nautilus.

Actually I’m not joking. I really mean it.

the orange diver, the yellow, greeny, bluish diver, rainbow bezel copying daytona and hublot,. this is fashion. ap claims classic but to me its fashion. check all royal oak both men and women.

patek is higher class and more classic.

You misunderstand my post. I am not comparing Patek vs AP. I was comparing the Royal Oak to the Aquanaut. The IP royal Oak Chrono is very traditional indeed and has no funky colours. In a chose one only scenario, I would pick the Royal Oak Chrono IP over the Aquanaut all day long.

And yes, I repeat, the Royal Oak has far more history behind it than the Aquanaut.

I own a few Pateks too so I respect and love that brand as well. But comparing Patek to AP overall, like you have done, is not what this thread is about.

Fehdy, would it be too much to ask for a higher resolution photo for better comparison of two amazingly good looking watches in your hand?

For what it’s worth, the polished platinum bezel on the audemar’s is much easier to clean up scratches than the brushed stainless bezel on the Patek. Can actually use a cape cod to minimize...at least that is my experience.

To me the AP is dressier (due to bracelet and the dial), the PP is more sporty (rubber).

I would take the ROC as it has more craftsmanship (GP dial and the finish on bracelet) especially if I already had another PP nautilus or aquanut as the OP said he did. While PP may hold value long term, I only evaluate on what will get more wrist time. If I wanted value retention i would spend on financial products.

I have both. My 5164a is my favourite watch hands down and I'll probably keep it for life. I love the AP too but not like my aqua.

Lovely photo. I think however that is the steel only Chrono.

Yes I think so. But I have only had micro scratches and they are barely visible.
