Quite possibly my favorite watch, I have the modern 42mm version and I believe it's my most comfortable piece. 2nd time around on this one too - traded the first one I had for an opportunity and quickly regretted it. Finally replaced a couple of months ago, never again to part with.

Definitely try it on. Photo perspective makes all the difference. The sub looks good on you. I have 7.25” flat wrists and I have not kept the 216570s I’ve had. Tried both black and white. Just did not bond. Seemed a tad large on me, but I enjoy my DSSD, so go figure....

Happy hunting! That’s the best part, for me.

Cool! Thanks for sharing that. I do like that watch, tried it on out of town once.

But I’m just enamored with the orange gmt hand of the black dial explorer 2

Not as flashy as other Rolex watches (including my Datejust), and idk, I just feel like it may be one of the last Rolex watches with that “tool watch” vibe

If you want it you should get it. Wrist size should be ok.

I sold off my YG submariner and bought the explorer immediately after.

At first I had the same dilemma “is it too big on me?” It’s not. I can say that with confidence.

I do consider myself a traditionalist when it comes to size. I much prefer the 36mm DJ to the larger models. I kind of hover around 40mm for the “sport” watches. I think the SD43 is too big. Bloated anyway.

Compared to the other 40mm Rolex’s I’ve had, sure it’s a little bigger. At least in a pleasing way- to me. And compared to the 16570? Looks much more modern. The orange 24H hand and the bezel makes it look so much nicer. I’d absolutely still own one whether it was 42mm or 40mm.

I think that looks great on you

If your wrist is 6.75 inches and you want to go with the 216570 I would opt for the black dial. I've tried on both, my wrist is 7 inches flat and although both fit (as in lugs not hanging over) the white dial visually appears much larger.

Brian, before I forget, what kind of adjustability does the 42mm Explorer 2 have?

I know it has the 5mm extension (easy link?) but does it have any micro adjust on the clasp?

Thanks

It's a decent sized watch and wears flat. It's incredibly legible and I found it comfortable when I had one. Easy link for adjustment. I ultimately parted with mine because I too bought mine after seeing it on someone...and it never really did it for me after the honeymoon. I got more compliments on that thing than everything else I own.

We have the same size of wrist and after two years of ownership I sold my black dial. It’s too big in my eyes for my wrist, and I tried to convince myself otherwise. Great watch if you can pull it off.

The new one is a big watch. There is no way around it. I have owed multiple of the old and new. Always went back to the old and now settled on a 40mm black dial.

The red highlighted statement was in jest due to someone stating the SD43 had a larger lug to lug than the 216570, which according to all measurement data I’ve found, is not true.

Same size wrist here OP and I also love the white Explorer. But sadly I have accepted that it is too much watch for me. Really wish they would return it to 40mm

There would be huge demand, look at the Tudor 58 BB in 39mm.

My wife wears a 31mm DJ. She can wear the hulk but only because woman wear them much looser and off their wrist and let them slide up and down their arms. Most wear them like jewelry. So they can pull off larger watches. If you make them wear it like men do then it will look ridiculous on
Most slim wrist.

Throw the Exp 2 on a Rubber B and it changes the feel lug to lug

A modern day classic. The 42mm sits just right on me. I like the high contrast and easy legibility of the black on white colour scheme. Against the white dial the lumes are just beautiful. With the black dial you get floating hands. These retro throw backs make a refreshing change from the now considerable selection of ceramic bezel Sport models, which beautiful as they are, tend to look like they all came out of the same mould.

The Polar was supposed to be my last watch, and a rather special one, to be the centre piece of my collection. My last and highest quality acquisition.

Yeah right! It turned out to be just the beginning.

Lug to lug the SD43 is smaller then the explorer ll by almost .8 mm. The the aluminum bezel also makes the dial appear larger especially the polar dial. To me
Lug to lug is more important on how a watch wears then the diameter.

It’s just how my wrist is shaped. It’s has this weird bend so it makes all my watches appear way too tight but I can fit my full
Middle finger between the watch and the wrist. ;)

I said the SD43 wears smaller then the explorer ll imo. It’s shorter lug to lug.

You're welcome. Tudor's Black Bay 36 is reminiscent of that 36mm Explorer. Might be worth checking out.
