Got the call from an AD for a Sky-dweller and ended up with...
I had a dream yesterday that my AD will give me a call. The strange thing that he actually called slightly before 10 AM saying that he has a Skydweller in white gold with a black dial. I wanted a black dial but it was either going to be an SD 41 or a Sub. I really liked the skydweller, but it wasn't my first choice.
I went to buy it since I'm leaving Switzerland soon and thought to myself that this could be the last chance ... the problem was that I just didn't see the hands without glasses, even with tilting the watch for legibility, I just couldn't read the time. In low light, it wasn't visible at all. I had a similar experience when buying my DJ41, I could only read the white dial, and that's what I bought. I was naturally disappointed, so I asked to see a few other watches, especially JLC ultra thin moon phase. One of watches I asked for was the Tudor Black Bay 58, which he surprisingly didn't have but instead he got me a few BB's and a few Pelagoses. I didn't like the Pelagos, but the BB in black M79230N-0009 was super legible and refined. I never liked the snowflake hour hand, but in person, it's much nicer. I ended up with the BB!... I've been reading good things about BB's for some time now, especially the accuracy of the new MT 5602/5402, but the snowflake hand and the thickness/heft really put me off. Although I was hoping for SD41 or a SUB in SS I can say that I'm satisfied with the look and feel of the BB 41. It's really a well made watch, it's a bit on the heavy side but nothing my 7.5" can't handle, or so I think. The AD also said that in his opinion it's has one of the best price to value/quality ratio many on this board seem to agree. The whole thing was strange .... but YMMV. Cheers |
