IWC, though I would not pick chrono as my dress watch. Another Portugieser or Portofino, perhaps 358306 (Portugieser 40mm) or 510107 with moon phase and 8 day power reserve (Portofino).

Cellini 50505, you pictured here, is a nice, all purpose, conservative, elegant watch. Between the two I favor the Rolex, especially as I consider its stance over time.

I agree...b/w these two, I prefer the IWC, but I would pick the cellini moon phase if that was an option.

Don't by IWC from AD. You can find new ones from grey dealers for 30% off.
The Portofino is not necessary budget. If you have your mind on IWC, I would propose Portugieser, their most iconic model, ref. IW371611. For slightly higher price - rose gold, white dial, but most importantly inhouse movement and sapphire case back. |

If I was in your shoes I'd be getting a second hand IWC portuguese perpetual calendar. You can get them for a very good price.
Miles nicer than either of your options here plus its a real complicated watch. Worth every cent. |

This whole thing might have just been squashed. As mentioned, I was 99.9 on the IWC, but apparently terms “in stock,” and “available” have different meanings to different people.

Sorry to hear about that. I recently had a similar experience with a Grand Seiko on a website, but they said that it was too risky to accept my credit card payment instead of just telling me that they couldn't secure the watch. I've been getting junk emails in French ever since.
