You made the right move. The date complication is a must.

You might have come to appreciate that no-date as you wait, and wait, and wait, for that cyclops. And if not, it’s doubtful the no-date would have depreciated. Bet your AD was stunned!

Second this. I understand OP wants the date, but the no date Sub is special IMO, too.

Good call like others said. If you want a Sub Date, the ND will not be the same. Sounds like you will get it soon enough, good luck!

I don’t blame u given the current market. I do have a decent relationship with the AD however!

Wow, I hate to say it but that may have been a mistake. I see you are located in Scottsdale ... meaning, there may be a lot of heavy hitters ahead of you on the Pepsi list in that town. I think the “bird in the hand” would have been the one I choose in this situation. If nothing else, you could have flipped it and paid a few grand more for Pepsi on grey if it was that important to you.

BTW, the BLNR is incredible!

As much tempting as that was, I think you made the right decision by turning it down to wait for what you truly want.

I do not see the ND as settling. I see it as an option in the Submariner line-up that is both classic and iconic. It is not like the AD will not sell you a Date Submariner when it comes in so what is the loss in picking the ND up. You would have a sought after SS sports model that wears great, just like the Date model, and you could enjoy it while you wait. If and when you get the date model you can keep the ND or move it along for another watch that you want. I would call the AD back and ask if you could have it and go get it. I did not really want the BLNR until I actually had one. Now it is a favorite.

If it wasn't what you want, then you made the right call for sure.

That said, I love the standard Submariner...to me it's so, simple, clean, sterile, beautiful, and true to form. For me, the 114060 and 124060 are about as close to perfect as a watch can be.

Solid move, wait for the one you really want. Your AD has a better idea your not a flipper too. It also lets someone who really want it get it at retail. All around good move.

Many a man has spent way more than planned, buying the watch that was available over the watch they really wanted. I may or may not be in that group.

I'm with those who say that the classic Submariner is the iconic, no-nonsense, strictly-business original.

On the other hand, you should not drop thousands on anything you're likely to have second thoughts about.
