I would very much like to think that this describes me. I do admit to having "winced" and having "cried aloud" on a number of occasions, but I'm not ashamed of having done so.

I have not read this poem since I was a young Pfc. stationed at Las Pulgas, Camp Pendleton, California. Someone had written it on a building I had to guard four hours on and four hours off, while I awaited my orders to Vietnam, back in 1968.

Tet '68 had just begun and I was stuck in a unit that was going nowhere and so, I went to my lieutenant and demanded orders as soon as a quota came in.

He said that he said that he would grant my wish, but that I had to stand guard duty and mess duty while I waited. I served a week of each before the orders came in.

Anyway, I'm a pretty drab person on the whole. I'm not much influenced by the demands of others, but I do try to be considerate.

Sometimes, I'm loud and obnoxious and other times, I'm quiet and withdrawn.

I haven't accomplished much in my life, but I have accomplished those things that I thought were important given my circumstances.

I'm happy with how things turned out and I wish the same for others.

If I had to choose my best trait, I'd have to say my humilty
In fact, my humility is probably better than anyone's

. . . . and I'm also really good looking

I am humbled by your words.

If only I could say as much for myself.

I’m a popular loner.
I know a lot of people
and a lot of people know me.
But my circle is small
And I’m usually by my myself.

I'm surprised I can live with myself but there are a few people in my life that think I'm special so I guess I'm alright.

What kind of person are you?

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Family first, friends and work family next. Always put your employees and clients before yourself and live by my dads saying of “any job big or small do it 100% or not at all”.

How I live…in shorts, free golf shirts, rainbows or DC slippers and a ball cap. Look like a total bum and everyone makes fun of my lack of style and could care less.

I have no filter. I speak my mind and people who can handle it love me. Those who can’t, despise me.

I try to be honest and think I manage to be 8 times out of 10. The 2 typically involves excuses and white lies.

I recognize I am not perfect but I cannot tolerate people who lack mental fortitude. But as I get older I have learned the value of silence when interacting with these types.

Strangers also mistake me for being quiet. I just rarely initiate conversation.

I am not skilled with the written word, I type how I speak, which, without facial expressions and arm waving sometimes comes out as confrontational, I'm not like that at all in real life, I'm much nicer. I sometimes read back what I have typed and think "goodness me, I said that but I didn't mean it that way." I have often sent a PM to members to apologise for the way things have come across and to explain how I should have said things in the first place. I have no problem apologising if I am wrong.

I am very polite and am seen by others that way, I'm no pushover though, those that think being polite is a weakness are very much mistaken. I suppose I have mellowed as I have got older. I am funny, I have a good sense of humour. Most people in real life seem to like me.

Unlike others that have answered, I do have filters, I don't like to hurt people with the spoken (or written) word, I often leave things unsaid because I will not humiliate or hurts someone needlessly, I will defend people against it from others though.

Edit; To be honest, I'm just a normal bloke, nothing special.

Depends who ya ask?

I'm a man, a son, a husband, a father, a brother, an Uncle, a nephew, a provider, a great lover (all the women will say this), and try to be a good friend.

I am one to stand on principal.

I try to keep to the words of my Grandmother and Grandfather, and the manners I was taught as a child.

I guess, like everyone, it's the next diversion from life that's ahead of us, that I continue to search out.

Oh yeah, Blansky types a lot!

I’m a bridge builder.

I try to be nice to everyone.

I’m very generous.

I’m constantly trying to be a better person.

I’m often disappointed in people.

I like everyone.......then I get to know them.

I find it extremely difficult to trust people.....even people I do like.

This is me - or maybe a 3/4 full kind of guy.

Generally outgoing and friendly, try to see things from other POVs...maybe that's why I'm a consultant.

My wife would also say that I'm annoying at times (what are you doing? now what are you doing? remember, we have dinner at 5), excitable always and consistently planning.

A lot of these self-descriptions match how I imagine some of you.

Like Brian in one regard, I don’t like talking about myself. Probably as a defence mechanism, I goof off too much, frequently flitting between eye-watering earnestness and basic silliness.
