I think an interesting question is if demand will go way down if Rolex watches become no longer (as) scarce for a regular buyer. I believe some buyers exist because the watches are scarce and hyped in social media rather than their love for the durability and history of the brand.

Hope this is wrong.

I thought the OP had genuinely been out of it for awhile but alas it’s just another run-of-the-mill-what’s-happening-with-Rolex threads.

Sounds like a familiar situation. Was in the Rolex Boutique in Orlando last February and they had maybe 4 in stock. My AD was a bit better back then but now they are about the same. The entire problem is the secondary market. For instance, I just checked Chrono24 and they list no less than 83 Oyster Perpetuals in Coral Red. 83. I have yet to see one in a store in person. Too many people looking to turn a quick profit and too many people willing to pay X times list for them.

Well it is a rolex forum after all. Do you want to talk about grass instead?

It's in short supply of original threads, that's for sure. This dude is clearly just a troll, looking to get a rise out of people. Let this thread die.

Ha a troll trying to get a rise out of people?! I was just stating what I'd seen in a shop window? If you think that's trolling then maybe you've misunderstood what the Internet is for.

You're almost up to 100 posts! :)

You could have easily ascertained the Rolex situation just by the thread titles in the forum. There is certainly no shortage of those!

Apparently it's for "Incoming" and "Got the Call" several times a day ----- and little else.

I don't plan on doing the silly back and forth with you, this is to merely clarify why I said troll. You post a ridiculous drivel of a thread that has been said 1000 times; why would someone do this? You get the replies one should expect and then you meet each reply with a snarky comment. You are not looking to better the TRF community nor educate anyone of new Rolex news; this my friend, is a troll. Retort as you will, I'm done troll.

But come on. You say you know what’s going but you start a thread making it seem you are shocked and appalled, almost naive as if you just awoke from a coma. Five years ago you bought a watch and tried on various yet today there’s only three watches and you yourself ask, so what is going on, but then you state you don’t need to catch up and that you know what’s happening…..so then, quite a conundrum we have.

Everybody and their wives and kids and in-laws knows what’s going on especially in this forum because we are the guys that bore our families to death with Rolex talk and force them to visit every AD with us when on vacation or just wandering about. Not to mention that there’s a jillion threads already on this and talking about display watches at that because there’s nothing to even see.

This thread is akin to posting an alert on the CDC website asking about a crazy new virus called covid 19 and they are making everyone wear a mask everywhere and even on planes and before you travel you need proof you don’t have it, states have shut down and people have lost jobs….
Then later say, well I’m Dr Fauci, fully vaccinated and I actually know what’s going on from the beginning, just making light of it and was just saying what is happening in society.

It doesn't work like that. You cannot sell your used BMW for 50% above MSRP. So, people will keep coming to Rolex and will keep driving Rolex market values up for the foreseeable future, imho. When the pandemic started, a lot of people, including myself, thought that demand for Rolex watches would go down. It didn't happen.

It’s been like this long enough to prompt me to believe this state of things is here to stay for many years to come. Not that I like it, just ready to accept the reality

The problem with this theory is that there is no alternative brand to Rolex in the watch world. It stands apart from literally every other brand in the mind of the general consumer. Some will buy elsewhere certainly, but I'd wager the vast majority will either wait, look to the grey market, or not buy anything at all.

My original post was to stoke conversation about lack of availability of rolex, I know that there has been a lack of watches but it was genuinely the first time I had seen a shop window with very little in.
I was not intentionally trying to troll people or otherwise but some of the people in this forum need to have a word with themselves. People post the same stuff all the time and I haven't been on the forum loads last couple of months coz I'm getting on with life again (covid permitting).

Wear your watches in good health and chill
