Sent my watch to RSC Dallas for repair, USPS is bringing it back

I just send my packages to NYC & Dallas using UPS Overnight or 2-day through UPS owned Parcel Post (they also offer FedEx label printing). No issues. Proper jewelry insurance purchased. Not everyone had access to Parcel Post so RSCs recommended USPS registered mail that allows proper insurance. I still use Rolex supplied box & paperwork. I just put it in an UPS envelope like the one below.

My father worked for USPS. Retired after 30 years. I refuse to deal w/ their nonsense.

Looking at the package I’m not surprised they refused it. The whole point of their specific instructions on packaging is to make it as obvious as possible to know if it has been tampered with in transit. The OP’s package is wrapped like a mummy and I’d be very weary of accepting it. Once the accept the box it becomes their problem. Ship in an appropriate sized box with a single layer of brown paper tape or anti-tamper tape along the seam of the box, nothing more or less.

Not only have I sent RSC (both Dallas and NYC) a package taped exactly like the OP has, I sent it that way using FedEx.

Too bad Rolex got rid of their independent, but licensed through Rolex service centers. We had one in San Francisco, easy to get to, no mailing, etc.

Lets just say lessons were learned today lucky for me they just rerouted the package to it's destination - no need to pay the shipping fee again, even though they are technically sending it again.

If you don’t mind me asking, did Rolex ever acknowledge receipt of your watch via email, text message or phone call?

I sent my watch to Rolex Service Center in Dallas on Oct 12 but Rolex never acknowledged receipt. I called them weeks later. A Rolex rep indicated they have my watch. It’s annoying that I have nothing IN WRITING to indicate they have my watch. They do have my email address on the service form. Even the USPS Registered Mail tracking # does not show that Rolex has it but an USPS internal log indicates that Rolex did pick it up. I know this because I called USPS and a USPS employee checked for me. It took a long time to navigate the phone menu to get a live person at USPS. It’s only been 11 days, I know I should be patient. Still, there’s nothing reassuring about this process.

Last time my Sea Dweller went to the Dallas RSC I was fortunate to work about 5 blocks away. In the future, when necessary, will make the four hour drive to Dallas for service work on any of my other watches. I’d have a hard time shipping one of my Rolexes these days.

Have a Tudor at Dallas RSC, sent it using USPS Registered using my own materials. No issues in receiving it, but super slow delivery . As mentioned above no one called from RSC to say it arrived, had to call in myself.

Timing so far:

Shipped: July 19
Received RSC Dallas: July 29
Estimate given & approved: August 27
October 4: Called and told extra 4-6 more weeks as need to order parts to Geneva !

Super slow!

That was my recollection as well. The local Beverly Hills RSC closed around 10 years ago (thankfully, reopened) and so I had to send my watch to Dallas for service.

I don’t know if it’s still the case, but some AD would package up a watch and send it to an RSC.

Where does it say that? Why would Rolex require USPS Registered Mail which includes insurance for up to $50,000?

Watches are not insurable for Express Mail International. The poster of this thread was mailing domestically in the U.S. Therefore the watch is insurable and payable for the declared value backed by evidence of insurance and value.

Very helpful. Thank you. I was concerned because the USPS registered Mail tracking # continues to show “ready for pickup.” I guess Rolex initiates communication only when they send a repair estimate. Without getting into the reasons, I could see why they do it that way. That is fine then.

Update 2:
The guy from USPS calls me up again within minutes, the package was in a safe. He says the issue was that I wrote on the packge "TO: ...." at the top and "FROM:...." at the bottom and the "computer picks it up as your address is the destination". He continues to say the clerk that accepted the package should have picked that up and should have asked me to write it correctly, I guess the TO at the bottom and the FROM at the top...Weird issue but the package was not tampered with at all so they are re-labeling it and sending it back to RSC. I pray to god the package content is still there.

what a stupid computer which doesn't even know how to distinguish between TO and FROM, lol!

Rolex only receives watches via USPS Registered Mail. I'd note, I wouldn't have told the USPS agent the contents or value to the box; they can look it up themselves but by telling them, you are bringing more attention to the shipment.

When I mailed it, I had to write the value on the USPS Registered Mail form but I never told my local USPS what was inside. There’s no need to say what the contents are. The value MUST be declared at the time the USPS Registered Mail Form is filled out. The form is then stamped.

About 2 weeks later, when I called the USPS national # to get an update on the status, I never mentioned Rolex either. I said the addressee was R.U.S.A. and that it is a business. It was the national # so it’s not like the telephone rep had physical access to the package anyway.
