100% agreed. PP's are pretty much mass-produced at their factory nowadays as is AP of course.

The next level up is when you get tired of typical cased typical movements and go MB&F. Agree with other TRF poster that Kari, etc are better choices for the price too imho.

Without a doubt Richemont is doing great work at maximizing profits for the company, bravo!

I ended up being told no politely by the dealer. Guess you need well into 6 figures of spend with Lange to get one. I bought a Zeitwerk from them brand new in 2019 and that was not enough…

I can tell you that $380,000 over 3 years is not enough. So I would say very high 6 or even 7 figures!

380k at dealer or boutique? According to Lange CEO they'll only send it to the boutiques ...

Ridiculous. I was annoyed about the games for the SS Odysseus (mine has been bumped even further out) and now this….just disappointing. A friend of mine is in a similar boat as you and was told no you n an SS Odysseus despite being a long time supporter of the brand

Until I saw the lumen my plan was to get a Gauthier. Going back to that plan now, done with these games lol

Agreed, when you have to beg for a SS, entry level, or rubber strap watch, get on a waiting list for STRAPS (VC), or wait 7 hours to get into a store, big funny joke and great time to explore non-hype brands.

Unbelievable, I can't wait for this crap to end. Right before the announcement I fished out of the sales rep that a SS/Sport may be coming and he was already starting to tell me how exclusive and allocated it will be, I hadn't even asked about buying one nor was it announced.

I love the Odysseus but not the games for the steel version. Thinking of going for the white gold odysseus vs a Grönefeld Principia... Thoughts?

I would take the Grönefeld Principia, I love what they are doing in terms of high horology. They stopped taking orders but if you can get one I would go for it.

Thanks for your opinion. I'm torn as I do love the grönefeld Principia and currently got in under the wire for my reservation so it'll be a couple of years vs a white gold odysseus which the boutique states is a 10 month wait. Unfortunately, I can't go for both. Why do you prefer the Principia, just curious.

ROFLOL!!!

With apologies.

GOOD POINT is that ..... you could just buy a package deal and FLIP the unwanted ALS or two. Not sure that's ALS' intention, yet i can see that happening by forcing people to buy things they really don't want or desire. This could get very ugly for Richemont as greys get loaded up with stock.

It's already happening, lots of "less desirable" Langes for sale ever since the Odysseus sas released. Most are below retail a good amount.

Not weird imho, it's the market at work. Look forward to seeing two years down the road how this marketing strategy pans out.

The way I was treated regarding the Odysseus has absolutely soured the brand for me. I haven’t worn mine since, and if it wasn’t bought to commemorate a milestone, I’d break the habit of a lifetime and sell it.

What happened if you don’t mind me asking? Just to understand what kind of shitty moves brands are pulling off these days in the name of ‘scarcity’ and ‘relationship building’

*Sigh*

How to describe this without seeming bitter?

I own a Lange 1 Platinum Moonphase, bought from the AD that runs the local Lange Boutique. A few days after the Odysseus launch (when it was still being slaughtered on forums and in the press) I happened to pass the boutique and stopped in on the off-chance they’d have a demonstrator. Turns out it was the day of the local press junket, and one of the interviewers was late. I spent a pleasant half an hour with the Lange CEO, discussing the company and the Odysseus itself, and even handled and tried on his own personal watch. As the interviewer showed up and we said our farewells, I was asked if I would like to put my name down, which I eagerly did. I loved the watch.

Fast forward several months and watches began being delivered in our locale. Having heard nothing, I contacted the boutique. They checked with Lange, and I was point-blank turned down. No “We were surprised by demand”, no “you can have one but it may be a wait”; no excuse or explanation at all. Even the personal meeting with Wilhelm Schmid, and being an existing pre-Odysseus customer, mattered for nought. No apology was forthcoming either.

I still love the Odysseus, but after being treated with such disdain, will never be purchasing a Lange again.

Lange CEO Wilhelm Shmid's personal Odysseus on my wrist:
