I think you would be surprised quite how many of these mass produced watches are sold using this "rare" hard to get technique.
Of course- that's why they never are shown in the displays - they come in - AD calls #1 on the list, if he doesn't want, call #2 etc.

So why they change this well working routine?

Or did he just work his way through the waitlist and now the waitlist is finally gone?

For me the 925 and the bronze are the ones that are most desirable. I love the looks of them and can live without most of them

Its funny how perceptions have changed with all this internet hype.

Not long ago display cases contained watches. People could go to an AD, try a watch and then decide of they wanted to purchase one.

Now if a watch is in a display case "supply exceeds demand" and clearly it is out of favour. There seems to be an expectation that empty cases are normal.

The internet and social media have really messed up a generation.

There are multiple variations of both black and blue BB58s in my local AD windows as of a couple of hours ago. UK.

I walked in and bought my BB58 Blue a couple of months back from an AD with a small discount. Got to try the different variations. an extremely enjoyable experience where the salesperson was vying for my business, not the other way around.

That's how it should be. Supply just ahead of demand.

The BB58 isn't losing its desirability. Its just that the artificially induced hype is dying down.

Not to me - still love the watch and at the price I was never really concerned about it’s “market value”.

Great watch to just enjoy with my NATO’s!

I can’t say it any better than how it’s already been said on this thread.

I love what Tudor has been doing and hope that everyone that wants a BB58 can get one!!

They are currently not fetching a premium over MRRP

I guess the newness/ social media pimping/ scarcity / hype was a driving force up until now , but the next biggest and best watch from Tudor (Chrono) has been released and is overshadowing what is essentially, a good watch.

Personally I love the black and blue version, and if I can get one at a good discount, thats great.

So in your experience is the BB58 hype receding?
You are asking two very different questions here.

1) Is it losing its desirability? No. To those who truly desired it, why would anything have changed?

2) Is the hype receding? Yes. That was never going to last. It was spillover from the Rolex insanity. For any watch that you can just walk in and buy there can never be a sustained hype factor. My AD actually dropped the Tudor line this year, said they just weren't good sellers around here. People wanted Rolex, not a compromise.

Here's an example I just went through personally. Decided I wanted a JLC Master Calendar. Called my AD, they ordered one, had it a week later at a 20% discount. I absolutely LOVE the watch. So beautiful, so fun with its unique complications. Desirability? Off the charts (to me). Hype? None. Like literally none at all. True watch nerds respect the brand, instagram couldn't possibly care less. Zero videos on youtube of a guy getting out of a Lambo with his JLC MC on.

It's a good watch, I tried the blue one last week to see how it fits.
I'm going to wait for the date version...

I recently purchased the BB58 925 at an AD. I thought the size would be to small for me, but its perfect. Taupe color of the bezel and dial are incredible and read differently under different light. The finish of the case in silver is so bright compared to stainless steel and really pops. I just wish they decorated the movement better with the display back being a new feature, and it came with a deployment clasp instead of a buckle. Other than that, one of my more favorable purchases the last few years.

Sold mine a few months ago. Bought another one recently. Missed it and nothing in that price point comes close. Appreciation is not always a monetary concept.

could be?

I bought mine before I knew it was a popular watch, and still is my most worn piece (best proportions for my 7" wrist)

Until they upgrade bracelet / get rid of rivets I do not even consider. Can buy anytime in the future.

Tudor bracelet is pretty nice at the price point. Rivets are more of an aesthetic choice.

I was surprised to see a 925 and a BB58 on the shelf at my AD last week.

The blue and certainly the gilt dial seem to be readily available now - so they won’t sell above retail and to for dealers to even try is madness imo. Same for the gmt - easy to get and therefore dealers asking for a grand over retail are in cloud cuckoo land. I think this is a pretty good illustration about supply and demand and what happens when supply is increased to at or above actual demand.

BB58 is a great watch, I think the supply has just caught up to the demand.

I wouldn’t say the 58 is losing its desirability, maybe it’s supply is now matching demand & isnt it quite refreshing to be able to walk into a AD try the watch on & buy it .I’ve owned mine for almost 12 months and it is now firmly one of my go to daily watches . Don’t need or want the hype , just want a nice watch that suits my taste and lifestyle.

No, this was on current in demand wait listed version. I had paid a deposit on one at the time. The AD rang me and said did I want the strap version as they had got some in. It just seemed so obvious how they were selling several under cover of looking like they had non available in the window. To me it seemed so obvious as Tudor don't seem hamstrung with waiting for special movements to be made of limits of such. Same AD was later miffed when I told them that another branch of their chain had them in the window at the time - it seemed this was a faux pas.

Simply never cared what others thought. Most don’t care what watch you wear or notice. Wear what you like and enjoy. Fwiw, I like that reference however.

I am over the watch even before I own one. I am glad I didn't buy one, that saved me time selling it. I moved on already.

Yes it is no longer desirable for me to own a BB58 anymore because I bought one last year and it’s bloody brilliant thanks.

Love mine, think it’s a fantastic watch fir the money, it’s not a Rolex but it looks great and wears well. I haven’t because I love it not because of social media and hype!

I purchased one a few weeks ago. It happened to be used, but the second AD I called had a new one. So if going from hard to get to available is losing appeal then I'm fine with it. It's nice to have a watch you want available without having to pay over retail, or having bought multiple other watches first.

7 1/4 inch wrist here and I think it’s actually the perfect size. I find it wears so much nicer than the new subs.

I do not recall a modern Tudor that was not readily available via ADs 18 months after the initial release. The one exception being the eta BB noir. Modern Tudors appear to be produced until demand has been met. Modern Rolex leaves the market wanting more. It will be interesting the see if the 925 and 18k follow this model or disappear after a short release.
