With Rolex prices for every model through the roof I have a price in mind which I am willing to sell each and every one of my pieces.
That price point is approaching very fast so depending on how 2022 goes with prices I may not be a Rolex owner at all. Honestly I've owned so many Rolex's the current prices are just ludacris. NONE of them are worth anywhere near their ask. NONE> |

I have a white dial, less than a year old and I paid retail.
Now it is almost 4x retail. Not even at 10x retail would I sell it. Why? Because it’s mine and mine to wear and enjoy and to pass onto my kids. I’d rather have the watch over the market value. And it won’t matter where the market value goes. And that goes for all of my watches. They each have a story and they are all special. Those things to me make them more valuable than their monetary worth. Never sell. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

These are kind of ridiculous discussions. We each place value on things for a variety of reasons that are our own. Sentimental, financial etc. If someone offers you 10 or 20X what an item is worth and you can go out and replace it for a fraction of the cost you better have a damn good sentimental reason to hold onto it. If on the other hand they offer you market value and you love the piece / think it hold value or go up with time why sell it unless you need the money. Everything in between is personal and based on individual tastes and needs. Nothing to argue here really. I can tell you that everyone I know who has sold a Rolex in the past has regretted that move but I don't know too many who regret buying one.

I own both the black and white dial versions of the watch. I like them but will sell when the money on the watches is such that it would be silly for me to hold them. They are just watches and I enjoy my Omega Speedmaster more and wear it more. I will also sell my BLRO, BLNR, Hulk, Sky-Dwellers, Subs and Explorer II's and not miss a beat or the watches. Sometimes the value takes some of the joy of ownership away for me. I enjoy my Seiko Turtles in a way that only a fan can and nobody cares. And that is the point sometimes.

The SS Daytona is more than a watch from Rolex now. That genie is out of the bottle and changed how the Daytona is viewed. It’s a icon and is at growing mythical status. What it cost at market value won’t matter to those with enough $$$ to want to wear “the legend” on their wrist. There are plenty of other fine brands of watches to wear that no one will notice.

I parted with mine for something more special for me… If i re-purchase, I’ll go for the black dial version this time.

My black 116500 would be the last property that I part with if I were in financial need. It’s my favorite Rolex and a joy to wear. I truly love it.
I read a quote once that says “if you own a 116500 you’re an idiot. If you paid gray market price you’re and idiot, and if you got it from an AD and didn’t sell it at gray market price you’re an idiot.” I found that funny. Yet what it doesn’t consider is love which is a powerful emotion. I love my 116500 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bought mine in 2017 via grey and at the time the price I paid for was deemed crazy and ridiculous. Ultimately it didn't matter to me though because I just really, really wanted the watch. It was my grail piece then and still is now.
I would have never imagined the price of the 116500LN would climb to this level and doesn't seem to slow down, for this reason I do feel a bit self conscious nowadays when I wear it, which kind of sucks and takes the joy out of it a little bit. I will never sell it though, I fell in the love with it the moment I saw its picture, loved it even more the moment I finally got it and put on my wrist. It doesn't matter how high it goes because I know if I ever sell it it would be much more expensive to buy it back.

I got Married wearing my white Daytona C. My wife would be angry if I sold it (bought at retail).

Whether people admit it or not, this is true.

It's all insanity right now. Good think I'm pretty boring and mostly go between my house and my office. Toss in the kids karate and that's about my life. So no big deal for me.
But all joking aside... Sure it's reasonable to not want to wear too expensive of a watch if you feel like it's not safe. As far as not being appropriate, I don't mind that much really.

The only time I think about my Daytona’s market value is when I read TRF. Thankfully. Other than that, I wear and enjoy it virtually anywhere I would go.

I still wear my white 500c without overthinking it for the most part. It's a steel watch thats easy to wear and can take the beating (mine definitely has a lot of wear all over the bracelet). The plan is to give this to my son one day. While prices have gone a bit crazy, I still don't have plans to sell it... with that said, that doesn't mean i won't highly consider it if it continues to rocket like this to say.. $100k? At that point maybe I do sell it, and just buy something else for my son because I don't want to give him his first watch being a $100k watch anyway. Or maybe I just keep it

No sense in owning it if you won’t wear it; think with a little common sense should be fine wearing it in most places
