I think it's a stolen watch then, there is no reason to remove the serial number otherwise.

Here is a picture of my former genuine 18239 on the same day (Friday). There is something off with the font and size on yours compared to mine

Probably was just a aftermarket diamond dial. I’m no expert but the dial is unlike any genuine Rolex dial I’ve ever seen but the watch itself looks ok. No way to tell without having the movement and watch authenticated. Good luck!

This 1985 Rolex have almost same Dial (diamonds, don’t..) without the date,
And the movement it’s like real with real gold but yes I need to check it in Rolex store, I’ve check it only in jewelry lab and his result is a genuine Rolex, the problem nearest Rolex store is far from my home and they close early at 18:00

That is not any Rolex dial I have ever seen. Looks strange to me. Everything just seems off.

There is nobody on this forum, that without having the watch, opening the watch, and inspecting the movement, dial, and bracelet can guarantee authenticity. Take it to an AD or a watch maker that has a knowledge of Rolex if you want anything authenticated. These types of posts are all speculative at best.

Somethings not right.

The day wheel is non genuine. Suspect date wheel is also non genuine.. Cyclops looks wrong but difficult to tell from photo.

Dial is non genuine Rolex, defo aftermarket dial. The font is too thick and the day window aperture is not correct. It has no chamfer to the inner edge. Also, the XI numeral on the outer track does not align with the diamond marker on the dial. Rehault is polished to a mirror finish, should be more satin in appearance..

Fluted bezel appears to overhang case at 9 o clock position. Case could have been polished down on that side but they would have had to use an angle grinder to remove that much material.

If OP says watch is genuine and was his fathers then I will accept that, but at the very least it has been worked on and modified with non genuine parts but if I were a betting man I’d say its a fake. Theres just too much wrong with it other than the dial alone and we haven't even seen inside the case.

Remove bracelet and check numbers between lugs. Serial numbers can be very faint in those areas on older references. Study the area between the lugs carefully in differing light, see if you can visually tease out the numbers. No watch maker would ever normally remove these numbers unless trying to hide its fake or stolen.

the crown is huge too. there's no doubt it's a frankenstein at the very least. the color of the gold seems right but the dial, bezel and crown scream fake

Not so, the most knowledgeable Day Date expert on the forum has answered in this thread.
Better than any AD who have no clue about older references anyway

What difference does this make? Are you being facetious? Rolex are not the only ones who have access to real gold.

Wouldnt there be an 18k stamp somewhere on the bracelet, which has not been fully shown in any of the pics?

Thank you I’ll try to check last part you have said and in my opinion it’s frankenstein Rolex with fake dial because the weight of the watch and the movement the material are so real, because I have another new Rolex
And I compare

lots of fake Rolex in real gold, seen several in Sri Lanka and India.

the end links are a terrible fit to the case, the dial looks bizarre, the day wheel has a sketchy font, the cyclops doesn't appear to be magnifying a whole lot, ( though some gen Rolex had this issue too) , the crown, as mentioned by others, is too big.

How do you know the movement is real and how did a jeweler erase the serial between the lugs, when engraving it for your dad- did he hide it under the end links?

I know the movement because I have another real one with serial number and I compared, I think the 18k gold fake Rolex was not in ~1987 but I’m not sure though it has been in closet for more than 20 years and it still work perfectly

so, with respect, you actually don't know the movement is real.
Or are you saying you took the back off of each and popped the movements out ?

When comparing, you could tell the movements were the same, but missed what must be other glaring external differences between the two ?

I’ve seen real 18k gold replacement bracelets that was not genuine Rolex bracelets. Just because it’s real gold doesn’t mean it’s a genuine bracelet.

May be part genuine, but I see too many red flags to call this DD authentic.
