116600 vs 16600? Worth considering?

Had a 116600...Sold it and went back to a 16600...

Thanks all for the responses here! It’s great to hear the thoughts from folks who have held onto their 16600 or who moved to the successor

I think it’s a must for me to find one to physically handle next. Getting both and deciding makes sense but maybe after handing one I would know. Another good suggestion was to try to find the later generation 16600, since mine is tritium.

For sure, though, both versions are formidable, top class when sold and continue to be

RSC in Dallas would have put a new luminova dial on my 1993 tritium SD during the service last year. Would have been additional charge. I did not go for it as they would have kept the tritium dial.

The 116600 is remarkable. It's also becoming difficult to obtain here in the U.K.

I have the current Omega Speedmaster 321 Ed White and the current 3861 Speedmaster. Thinking about trading the Ed White 321 for a Rolex 116600. Is this an even trade or bad idea?

I put my 16600 on and Everest Rubber Strap and kept the 116600 on glide-lock… 2 different looks, 2 different feels… both are amazing!

I traded up from a 16600 to 116600.

I almost bought back my 16600, as I missed it. I would like to have both:

16600: smaller/lighter/really comfortable on the wrist. Works great on a NATO (lug holes on mine).

116600: love the larger indices, glide lock, heavier clasp, better lume. It helps that it's about +1 after two days, too.

Like c3pastor, I'd keep the 16600 on a strap and 116600 on a bracelet if I had both.

SD4K is my forever watch. As others have said the ceramic bezel, clasp, 40mm case w slightly slimmer lugs and date with no Cyclops just work so well. Add in a limited run as well before the jump to 43mm. It’s the daily driver and been through thick and thin. I also like new sea dwellers but this is the final modern “classic” and as a result a very important (and underrated) reference in the line up imho.

I have an old 14060 Submariner, my daily watch, and while I treasure it and will never sell it the dead-as-a-dodo tritium lume does sometimes bug me, like last night when I was out and about in the dark. But this one little niggle wouldn't drive me to look for a new Submariner, excellent and much-improved though the new model undoubtedly is!

116600 is a stud of a watch. It still represents a decent value IMHO, relative to the more widely produced date and no date subs. Limited to 3 years of production may make it a true collectible in the future - or not.
