What is your biggest about turn/180?

Meh to love are OP39 white and YM rhodium. Never thought too much about them until I tried them on. They are both in my top 3 all time right now.

Love to meh is panda Daytona. Was on the list and been pestering AD for years, finally got one. Took it home and realized it did nothing for me. Took it back next day and returned it for TT Daytona white. AD was shocked and quite happy to work that out.

I bought a white 116520 and it just didn't click... illegible, small... and then it went wrong and I traded it in for a blue dialled Sky-Dweller... much more legible, complicated, imposing...

Then I sold a Day-Date 18238 and thought... what's my collection missing? A Daytona...

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and decided to plough my money into... yes, you've guessed it... a black 116520.

So far so good, still relatively illegible but now a nice size and a fully fledged member of my collection... until PP prices plummet and I trade it in for a 5296G that is!

Explorer II Polar. I never used to like the white dial then I developed a hankering for one when I was skiing! Traded in a two tone Wimbledon for one a couple of months ago. It really compliments my collection as its my only white dial watch.

The Daytona is the one for me also. I tried on the TT version and thought it looked small not only on my wrist but the dial size. Then a SA let me try on his YG Daytona Ceramic OF. I loved it.

Explorer II black for me, I have been dead set on divers for years but sprung for one that I saw in the window, it's been surprising how well of a fit it is for me. Would recommend trying something different time to time!

I don't know if I did a 180, but lets just say I now flip flop on the issue.

two watches:
1- Daytona: I never really liked it and always dismissed it. Until I saw one in 2015 and fell in love with it.
2- Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch: never considered the watch. Saw it on my friend's wrist and couldn't stop thinking of it. Read all about its history and variations, etc. And soon will be the owner of one!

I would say the Datejust. I always thought it was a fairly handsome watch, but just never really got it. I loved and desired the professional modes from my childhood until current day and just never really understood the appeal.

Until one day I said I need something a bit more formal and was in search of a DJ41 Blue Fluted Jubilee like everyone else. Then I found one and a white DJ fluted on oyster was next to it in the case. I found myself quite shocked at just how much I love the white dial DJ over the blue, and it’s still one of my favorites. Plus to me anyways, although it may not be as formal as a 36, it helped bridge the gap of dressier watches to sports. It feels right in between.

My DJ 41 Wimbledon Jubilee/Fluted. Was excited when I got the call but have only worn twice in the last 6 months. Should have gotten Blue or maybe Silver dial. Not feeling it any more.

I have been collecting and an enthusiast for nearly 30 years and collecting included various brands. My about turn happened in two phases, first when the difficulty in receiving allocations from Rolex began, I switched to the other brands I was loyal to and just recently decided I was no longer interested in any more Rolex, so I am now done with the brand - their fault! I'll keep what I have, but will no longer buy any more.

Think about it, walking into the dealer and going past by the Rolex cases and heading to view all the other brands that I can buy. The joy is back

I never liked the Daytona line … just too busy for my liking. Recently I put one on my wrist at the AD, and now I HAVE to have one … 3 actually, which I am “waitlisted” for.

NEVER thought I would purchase other brands, but as others have stated above, the lack of Rolex inventory made me look at other brands … now I am actively studying other brands, and will buy a Breguet, and want to buy an A. Lange & Söhne … and perhaps buy an Audemars Piguet Code 11.59

Like others, my biggest 180 was with Rolex itself. I started with a Cartier, then got gifted a DJ II by my wife about 10 years ago. Pretty much all Rolex since then.

Lately, however, I think I’m entering another 180. Looking at other brands again as I’m kind of put off by Rolex at the moment.

When I was buying datejusts (3) bluesy’s (3) and a root beer because I didn’t want to wait. My turn was realizing what I really want. Rolex, ceramic, SS, Sub/GMT/Daytona and that is it. Have my BLNR with my Sub now and could not be happier, and this is coming from someone that went through many others in a couple of years to get to them.

For me it was the DSSD.
Initially I didn't appreciate the MK I dial upon its release, then I stumbled upon the MK II dial version in 2011 at the dealer and I bought it on the spot without so much as a second thought, which I have never done before with any watch let alone a Rolex.

I think you are talking about the ceramic white dial Daytona with sub dial black rings? The thing about a hyped or not hyped watch, has nothing to do with your taste or what you like… who cares about hype??? Mystery to me why these so much talk about that here!

I was a huge Panerai fan in the early to mid 2000's. I owned 5-7 watches and had a nice strap collection. The brand veered off for me and with some of the information about movements/history I got down on the brand. I always enjoyed the watches but it took me some time to reconcile my thoughts with the facts. My SA is a fan and after long discussions I have come to the conclusion that I still like a lot of the watches, mostly older models, so I jumped back in. I have purchased a 317/233/422/389 and am getting my strap options back to a decent level. Do I like the direction of Panerai? Most likely not, but I like some of the watches and really enjoy the way that they wear. This is my flip.

In 2016, I fell in love with the white ceramic Daytona. Got on list, was told spring 2017, maybe sooner. I was obsessed with getting it. I remember seeing the platinum one at the AD and saying, "Can you believe some people pay an extra $60k for a blue dial?" I got tired of waiting, yadda, yadda, yadda and bought a slightly used platinum one. I wear it every single day, love it, and it's one of my favorite purchases ever.

FWIW, I still think the white is gorgeous, and (at retail) is the biggest bang for the buck in watches. I'm sure I would have been quite happy with it had I waited and if it had ever come in.

The bad surprise: Explorer 1 36 MM: I obsessed over the 36mm release because I like smaller watches. After getting it and wearing it for several months, it’s just too small for me (it’s smaller than other 36mm watches!).

The good surprise: 36MM Datejust: I dismissed this as a dress watch, but when I tried one with smooth bezel on oyster bracelet I realized it works as a fabulous dressy sports watch and pretty much the perfect one watch for me. Bonus surprise - I love the Wimbledon dial!

I was collecting Breitling watches for many years. Very happy acquiring them on the secondary market well below retail. At the time… around 2005, a buddy of mine bought his TT Sub and paid close to retail. I remember saying to myself… “nice watch however not sure what makes it so special” and “I would Never pay full retail for a Rolex or any watch”. Then… a co-worker was wearing his vintage Pepsi Gmt, faded aluminum bezel. Was intrigued at that point. Read up on the Pepsi Gmt history and I started to get what makes Rolex special. It is something that will last, holds its value and can be passed down for generations. I love watches and it would be great to someday pass them down to my sons… give them something that they remember seeing me wear and enjoy. Visited a Rolex boutique in 2018 during a stay at a casino in CT, asked if they had a GMT Master II. SA explained that they do not get too many of them however added me to the “wait list”. Offered me a TT Sub (blusey) which was sitting in the case. Tried it on… however I preferred a stainless steel watch for everyday wear. SA asked me if I was sure I wanted to pass on it and mentioned it will probably be gone in an hour if I change my mind. Told him I will pass, thankyou. Haha… went back an hour later and it was gone… just like he said, actually sold 1/2 hour after I tried it on. Waited patiently and finally got my BLRO at a different AD in 2020 (original AD I reached out to in ‘18 closed shop). Was thrilled to pay full retail to have such an awesome watch. Unfortunately, my Breitlings, which are great watches too, are getting zero wrist time these days. In April’22, I was again very fortunate to acquire my Sub LV and now it shares wrist time with my BLRO. The wait was truly worth it. Two great watches I truly enjoy to pass down to my two great sons. Mission accomplished. Now waiting to get one for the wife.

When I first became a member of the forum I wanted to sample everything Rolex and Tudor. It became overbearing. Eventually my tastes matured and I now am much more selective in my choices. I might add that I've pretty much settled on newer watches as well but generally not the ones that everyone and their brothers need to own.
