I remember when i stopped in at a very small pizzeria downtown. I order a couple of slices sat down and started to eat. Right then, the cook came out of the kitchen with a prostitute. I could barely finish the pizza after that. Then some of my stuff got stolen out of my friends apartment. And an acquaintance was assaulted on the sidewalk when we went bar hopping.` Yes, fond memories. |

You might even have room for your own runway. A hayfield might not support the fighter jets you cut your teeth on, but you should be fine setting down a small Cessna.

Our Florida Power & Light (FPL) eclectic bill for our home with pool, networks, two AC units.... $175 during the hottest month of the year. Gallon of gas is about $3.25... $3.99 for premium. No Florida State income tax either, but yes please stay in Cali as they truly do need people there. Btw i loved living in Napa decades ago, before they built it all up for major tourism. Napa was EPIC in the 1970s.

I'm with Jesse on this; I'm a native Floridian (Duval County/Jacksonville) who got stationed at Vandenberg AFB on the central California coast in 1962, and fell in love with the state. I lived in SoCal for years after my separation from the Air Force working in the aerospace industry, and moved to San Francisco in 1972, so I've lived in the bay area for fifty years.
I visit family in Florida every couple of years, but always love returning home in the wine country after those visits.

Lived on both of Forida's coasts before the massive development. I have been back to visit. Beaches are still beautiful, but it is not the same by any stretch of the imagination. And, having lived in the country for several decades, there is no way I could ever live in a developed and massively populated area again. Will always miss the beaches, the stone crabs, and being able to eat at cultural diverse places without making day trip of if. But enjoy the privacy and slower pace of life more. Looking out the windows of our farmhouse this morning (North, South, East and West) all I see is the fall colors (later than usual) and wildlife. Getting ready to hike with my dog and then check on our donkeys. I will hear the church bells later this morning from the church down the way. But I will not probably not see a single person today unless the amazon delivery person stops to chat or my in-laws come over to check their corn crop. Obviously, this lifestyle is not for everyone.

My wife is a Gator and grew up in West Palm, and I will say that places like Marco Island, Siesta Key, Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale have our hearts...it's just not a place we'd choose to be 365 days out of the year. Plus, the cost of housing in the places mentioned has greatly increased since COVID, so much so that the cost benefit of living there over CA (speaking strictly real estate cost) has dwindled. We've talked about doing 9-10 months in CA/2-3 months in FL in the future and do still own 2 rental properties there, so it is a part of us. But I always laugh about it - who actually snowbirds OUT of California?! This is a 365/yr type of place. |

I love living in Florida, love spending time at Lido Key and South Daytona. I love Maine as well. Just got back from coastal Maine last night. I’ll be spending time at my place in Tobermory Ontario soon.
But I love Florida. Such a nice state, nice people. Love the heat. It’s now my home base. So much to do and see. Happy to be a resident. No desire to live in California. |

No, unfortunately I do not remember the name of the pizza joint. Another prostitute came into the pizzeria as the first one came out of the kitchen. Apparently they were friends and shared some gardening tips. Something about a hoe...... |

When I moved from Canada in the middle 1980s to LA and lived at the beach I loved it and thought this was heaven. Riding my bike on the beach on Christmas Day at 78 degrees, and the summers with no bugs was great.
But talking to the "natives" was always, "yeah it's ok, but you should have seen it in the 60s" ......"man it was great then" ......Gidget time I guess. And others were like "the 70 man, that was the best...free love"....what ever that means....is love ever free??? So now I've lived at the beach, Silicon Valley, Wine country, and now suburbia above Malibu. Great life in all the locations...... This is a fun article on "yeah but it was way better before" ......only this is about NYC. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2...e-i-moved-here

Ok, yes, in some enclaves and situations CA is lovely. 100% agreed. The big money seems to be moving to FL including some big Wall Street companies (NY and NJ lost their luster).

I grew up in San Diego but don’t live there anymore. It has my favorite weather in the country and I love going back there. We still have a house there and may return some day. We chose to raise our family in Florida and I don’t regret decision. Both places are pretty great. California is a really big state. SoCal is awesome. I don’t really care for the rest of it except Tahoe. Love it there.

Blowing Rock is great. I am in foothills, between Pilot Mountain and Mount Airy (Mayberry RFD).

Quite. I always thought Piaget was overly optimistic when he said most people begin to be able to understand the perspective of others at age 7.
