I wore my 16610 on my wedding day with tux. Now, does it "go"....no. However, it simply disappeared under the sleeve and when it peaked out the older models had less size, no shine/bling, and went un-noticed. That's the versatility of the sub. While it doe not go, it does not look out of place either. The new ones, are another story as the proportions have increased and the ceramics quite shiny.

Only a few more inches before it goes to locks of love.

I received compliments on the hair 10 to 1 over the watch.

Even my MIL told me she normally hates long hair on men but I pull it off very well and she likes it on me. If she couldn’t find issue I call that a win!!

I used to know the answer to this, but I've forgotten... what's a suit?

It’s not a matter of “can or cannot” it’s about whether it looks good/appropriate.

So yes you *can* wear a clown costume to your best friend’s wedding.

That’s a terrible analogy. You can’t wear a clown costume to your friends wedding. Of course not.

But you can wear a Submariner. That’s for sure.

Lol at you rigid grumpsters. No Sub with a suit? Please. An all-metal watch is ok to wear, as long as it’s gold, but stainless steel isn’t? Ok…

A sub with a suit, sport coat, and similar totally works. Not sure about a tux, but I like the bold move of it. I also like the idea of sporting a SD43 with a suit.

Traditional sartorial rules are a bit antiquated. As long as someone doesn't look inappropriate, I don't pay much mind to what others are wearing

I don’t think he did. The analogy was ridiculous. Wearing a clown suit to a wedding would make you look like an idiot. Wearing a Sub with a suit, watch snob feelings aside, will not.

Can someone explain to me why, in 2022, it is wrong to wear a Submariner, a piece of jewelry, with a suit?
Without citing rules that came about before my parents were born.

When were your parents born, and why is that relevant? The Golden Rule dates back millennia, but is still relevant today.

What? 1 thousand years ago?

Men didn't even start wearing wrist watches until the early 1900s.

Either way, it's not relevant today at all, and hasn't been for decades.

Far as I can tell, not only are there few rules anymore about what you can wear with a suit (sub or sneakers or whatever), there are few rules about when you should wear a suit at all. It's kinda weird that people are still talking about this in 2022. I do work at an institution that has a formal dress code, which is often irritating, honestly---the dry-cleaning alone probably costs me a Datejust a year. :-/ But this is a weird job where drop-ins from bigwigs are common and we're always supposed to look sharp. Nobody here has ever noticed what watch I'm wearing. But aside from the odd antiquated workplace, when--besides a funeral or a wedding--is a suit truly expected? I'd think that, for most of us, a dress-watch would mostly sit unused. Hardly worth the $. (This is one of the reasons I landed on the 118209 in wg: works for all occasions.)

I'd think the main reason a Sub wouldn't do with a suit is that it'd be a nuisance, getting caught on my cuffs all the time. And for those spending a lot of time at the computer, it could get annoying having that ludicrously large clasp under your wrist all the time-?

If we were strict with this rule, the JLC Reverso would be a sports watch and not a dress watch, but here we are - the Reverso is very much considered a dress watch today. Fashion and style evolve, so just as easily wearing a Sub/other sports watches with a suit could become the norm. Obviously some sports watches would look very out of place with a suit/tux, but the Sub has a much more refined look to it, so it’s not an issue.

Does anyone really care what watch you're wearing or how you wear it?? No, not really. Pair a sub with a suit?? Sure go ahead. It's not the right fit in my opinion (and not something I would personally do) but everyone has to make their own decision about what they want to do.

You’re comparing a basic tenet of human interaction with fashion advice?

Also, you don’t think fashion rules have changed since the 60s? Or any other other number of things…

Great choice. On the few occasions I have to wear a suit I almost always wear my Sea-Dweller 16600.

So, what does this millennia rule say about iPhones with suits? Or smart watches? And what is the difference?

And for the record, I have worn a sub with a suit thousands of times. Never got any weird looks. Or not any weirder than normal, that is.
