Depends on the city. I'm in California and its STILL a nightmare. I was on the sub waitlist since June (AD had qouted one year at the VERY min). Was there in September and he said they've only received like 10 sub date all year around and I have ZERO purchase history. He was honest enough to admit the allocation goes to VIP clients but didnt push me to buy Tudor/jeweley which they also sell. My 2nd option was DJ smooth bezel (blue motif dial or green dial).
He changed my preference to the DJ some weeks ago but also said they've received literally 3 motifs all year around so not sure. But he said he'll try his best to hook me up by x-mas. So fingers crossed. And I was there 2 weeks ago and literally witnessed over 10 people walking in and asking to be put on waitlist for sub, daytona and gmt. I overheard some being turned away with a nice "sorry..we don't have any waitlist for this year". It's pretty facked still. |

I can see post Christmas period a ramp down of the market and more availability at AD’s and most certainly further deterioration of grey market prices.

I was offered a YG DD40 with diamond ring, DD36 with diamond dial and leather strap, YM II steel and YM II steel/gold when I popped into my AD last week. The craziness definitely seems to be slowing down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not really, I just glanced at the OPs prior threads. They seem to be mostly about AD interactions.

I’ve gotten calls this month from two different AD’s offering me watches that are not on my ‘list’ with either of them:
AD1 TT Sub Sub No Date OP 41 Green AD2 DJ41 green fluted motif dial (I went to see in person and just didn’t like it) TT white dial Daytona I passed on these because they aren’t what I want. One of the AD’s who I have a better relationship with told me they are having more and more people pass on watches. |

In the USA, the luxury watch market has cooled slightly as the flipping frenzy has subsided.
However, there still are huge pockets of wealth in the upper class that will make purchasing specific Rolex, LV, Mercedes and Birkin products impossible to find. I’ve been waiting for a PM DD for one year and it’s not happening. It will never be like 2008. |

My AD has no watches and says business is strong with waiting times for a SS Daytona at least a “decade”. The manager laughed when he looked at my SS Daytona and said that is a “decade wait” watch. I am in a relatively rural area of the state with the average citizen lusting for a new pickup and not a luxury watch so that should speak volumes what a affluent area might be like.

Far from desperate. I don't want to bet against you, and I hope you do get something you want, but that would be the exception to the norm.

Very true Flippers are less involved as there is less money to be made But pipeline is still open and relationships strong Having said that i do expect daydates to sell below msrp in near future or be bundled with stainless professional watches Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

From a pure perspective of sales volume I agree.
Looking at the big picture, the audience of participants / enthusiasts / crazies for horology (and vinyl LPs / record players) has grown quite a bit. Call it a rebirth or new retro-cool or whatever, yet the facts are there is more demand for them today than in 2008 from far more consumers. Imho eventually all the increased production will be closer to true demand. We're just not there yet. And yeah, the vinyl LP pressing plant growth has been historic!

the only people who think ADs care who they sell to are fools. they sell to whoever will buy watches and jewelry. it is basic. they used people to inflate their sales and many played into it. keep getting played.

I think the SA was hinting for you to buy some other merch: ie: jewellery, other watches with a possible Rolex as a bundle for the Christmas season: is this a boutique dealer or multi-brand AD? Doesn't the SA already have knowledge of the pieces you are looking for so why call you asking if he can get anything for you, just look up what you want and offer it to you. Doesn't make any sense..
Put it this way - if you were an SA would you sell a SkyD to someone you have never made any commission from in the past and no prospect of making commission from in the future or sell the Sky to someone who has a track record of making you some money in the past and will likely do so in the future... My AD also indicates things are slowing but demand still outweighs supply by a large margin. In any case best of luck and hope you get what you are looking for. |
