The real pilot (who flipped off the Ruski) is on the Space Shuttle team now.
Think of how many more errors will be found when one of you guys gets it on Blu-Ray!

Actually, you are correct. "E" Entertainment did a story on the watches of Top Gun some years back. The cockpit watch, as it turns out, is on the wrist of Penelope Cruz. According to the story, they were editing a movie she made and Top Gun at the same time. The editor grabbed the wrong piece of film (marked Cruz instead of Cruise).... The Penelope Cruz movie was a remake of From Here To Eternity updated and with an all female cast. Hope this bit of Hollywood trivia helps. |

It isn't just that movie. Ton's of movies are like that. In Oceans 11 there are many mistakes like that. Brad Pit has a cocktail shrimp goblet, that switches to a plate, then back to a goblet, etc and so on.

I made Chief Petty Officer (CPO) the year this movie came out!
Those of us in the Navy went to see it and laughed at the inaccuracies. Still a great action movie; but not perfect on the details. I still break out in a smile when I see it on TV. A nice YOUNG Meg Ryan starred in this movie (smiling). |

I was in the US Navy for 10 years, and did a 4 year tour on an Aircraft Carrier. While on deployment, they would play Top Gun every so often. We called it the "recruiting movie", as so many of us joined in the years following that movies release.
On topic though, I'd be willing to bet the real Naval Aviator was the one wearing the Rolex Sub, not Tom Cruise. |

I sold my Breitling TOP GUN to a Top Gun instructor, took along time to do the deal, but I was in no hurry. It was virtually NOS, the guy was really pleased with the watch, and great to deal with, seemed the kind of guy who would run marathons and climb everest in his spare time..

I liked the movie as well. On a side note I find it cool that Military members, police, fire, and medical staff actually wear Rolex watches. I have met many of these heros with real Rolex watches on their wrists.

I haven't read through all the posts so someone may have already said this but that movie is notoriously littered with consistency mistakes.

I loved that movie. I was like 8 or 9 when that came out! I remember trying to make my teeth make that clicking noise iceman does.
